Critical Skills:

Mechatronic system synthesis, modeling, controls, optimization with an emphasis on experimental verification of system optimality

Well-to-wheels energy pathway analysis including biofuels and liquid fuels processing

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development and demonstration of vehicle powertrain concepts using advanced engines with automatic and electrified transmission architectures that capitalize on advanced technologies and advanced fuels and offer improvements in vehicle fuel economy, performance, and drivability
  • Create innovative powertrain sub-systems to meet advanced functional requirements
  • Develop mathematical models to simulate sub-system, powertrain & vehicle dynamics
  • Simulate vehicle powertrain concepts for estimating fuel economy and performance
  • Synthesize and implement control strategies for powertrain systems
  • Conduct experiments and implement controls in test vehicles to demonstrate and validate system functionality
  • Establish technical plans with cognizant managers
  • Execute technical assignments with limited supervision
  • Suggest improvements to project plan as needed
  • Deliver consistent, solid, and timely results
  • Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art in areas of technical responsibility
  • Understand industry and suggest new project areas
  • Develop corporate contacts in areas of responsibility
  • Represent GM effectively to the external technical community
  • Communicate results and progress to team and supervision
  • Prepare timely, high-quality internal and external reports
  • Consistently demonstrate strong teamwork

  • Ph.D. (Mechanical Engg or Aerospace Engg); 2-3 years work experience preferred
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with GM internal and external customers, including executive management
  • Adaptability to working with multiple projects and in different technical areas
  • Strong project management skills, especially for projects with high technical risk
