General Motors Associate Designer - POW0005420 in Pontiac, Michigan

Responsible for developing design solutions to meet component requirements. This activity includes problem solving with support of the Design Leader Technical or Senior Designer. Work requires an understanding of basic design concepts. Has the ability to work with specific direction from Design Technical Specialist or Senior Designer and make basic decisions based on general practices and procedures. Gaining exposure to the Powertrain Development Process requirements and math fidelity of each cycle. Developing proficiency in CAD Tools and ability to understand and follow Standard Modeling Methods.

Major Duties/ Responsibilities

• Understands appropriate design methods and procedures based on common modeling processes and virtual vehicle integration requirements

• Developing understanding of manufacturability of components

• Participates in design and/or virtual reviews

• Documents and maintains materials, mass, and other part specifications within the Math file

• Is able to follow detailed instructions from leaders or peers

• Utilizes input from internal/external customers to meet requirements

• Executes NX Analysis for component or subsystem

• Familiar with the Global Powertrain Development Process

• Familiar with the Powertrain Assembly Structure

• Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in area of responsibility

• Shares lessons learned with Design Manager, Design Technical Specialist, Lead Designer

• Creates simple math data (models)

• Keeps Design Manager, Design Technical Specialist, Lead Designer informed of assignment status, timing, and technical issues

• Ensures high quality, on time math release of components and subsystems

• Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of all learning opportunities

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design / Engineering Technology

• Experience (1 to 2 years) or demonstrated proficiency with successful product design results


• Successful completion of CAD and Data Management courses

• Good understanding of NX, Teamcenter, Trubiquity, TcVis

• Good oral and written communication skills

• Interpersonal skills to work effectively with other including global partners

• Basic knowledge of GD&T

• Basic knowledge of product design concepts and manufacturing (i.e. injection molding, stamping, extrusion, machining, casting etc.)

• Basic knowledge of GPDS, APM

• Basic knowledge and ability to interoperate between Teamcenter (Powertrain Assembly Structure) and Vis Mockup applications

• Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite

• Good problem solving skills

• Basic understanding of Specifications and Release terms and systems
