County of El Dorado RESERVE DEPUTY SHERIFF - LEVEL I/II in Placerville, California
The County of El Dorado is conducting this recruitment to establish a list for the Reserve Deputy program in the Sheriff's Office in Placerville and South Lake Tahoe. Please note, this is a voluntary position.
Those applicants who meet the minimum requirements for this position will be required to complete a pre-background investigation questionnaire. Based on the information provided, applicants may be disqualified based on criteria set forth in Part 4, Section 406.1 of the County of El Dorado Personnel Rules.
The eligibility list will be ranked using the following method:
Oral Examination (Sheriff): The oral interview score will be worth 100% of the total score and ranking on list.
Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of peace officer duties involving the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigation, crime prevention and suppression, case preparation and testimony, and providing information and assistance to the public.
Reserve Deputy Sheriff Level I/II is the experienced class in this series, fully competent to perform a wide range of peace officer duties. Examples of Essential Functions
Patrols assigned areas to ensure the security of life and property, observe situations and deter crime by providing high visibility.
Responds to suspicious activities and answers emergency calls for service.
Enforces state and local laws and ordinances; issues verbal warnings and citations; pursues and apprehends suspects and requests assistance as required.
Investigates juvenile and adult criminal activity and incidents as assigned.
Coordinates crime scene control and investigation, including interviews and interrogations, identification of witnesses, overseeing collection and preservation of physical evidence.
Restores order, protects life and property, and maintains the peace at public gatherings and in conflict situations.
Prepares and documents cases, completes reports and records, and prepares and maintains other logs and records.
Serves as a coordinator or team member in such special projects as drug enforcement, livestock investigations and boating regulation enforcement.
Provides traffic and crowd control as necessary; participates in special details and assignments, including Search and Rescue.
Retrieves, identifies and returns found property and/or evidence to owners.
Provides emergency aid and assistance to incapacitated persons and requests additional response.
Provides information, directions and other services and assistance to the public.
Coordinates with and serves as back up to other local law enforcement agencies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements (typing "See Resume" in application will not be accepted)
High School diploma or proof of passing the general education development test (GED)
- Possession of current California POST Modules I, II & III certificates or possession of current California POST Law Enforcement Academy Certificate.
- Complete the Field Training Program
- Complete 24 hours of POST certified training every two years Other Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen, be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver's license. Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. Must maintain a firearms qualification. Must be able to pass a background investigation and a psychological and medical examination.
