Business Description

Mortgage Banking’s Investor Remedy team supports Servicing Financial Operations, which includes Investor Reporting, Master Servicing/Sub Servicing, Default Claims, Default Recon and Loss Analysis. The operational footprint spans across multi-state and global locations, including key vendor oversight and analytics, as well as operations in the firm’s Global Service Center in Manila, Philippines. High interaction with GSEs and Private Investors.

Position Summary

The Rebuttal Analyst is responsible for completing Loss Analysis and/or the Default Reconciliation process; conducting loan-level Default Claims’ financial and root cause analyses to dispute curtailments and maximize loan recoverables. In this role, the analyst interprets Servicing & Investor Guidelines (the latter including regular and voluminous updates) that often vary in conjunction with each claim by:

  • Investor (i.e., FNMA, FHLMC, Private Investor, MI, FHA/VA and USDA).Note: Guidelines can be silent or vague on recoverability

  • Servicing Guidelines that vary by:

  • State/County/Township

  • Property Type (e.g., condo, co-op, mobile, and primary residence)

  • Liquidation, Modification type

  • Default fee matrix

  • Contracts/third party (attorney and vendor) practices

Analysts in this role will consult with up-stream MB operations management regarding recommended changes impacting recoverability to mitigate future loss-related practices. Responsibilities may also require analysis of loan transactions and posting practices regarding reclassifications of recoverables.

Additionally, theRebuttal Analystmay be assigned line of business projects as necessary. These projects may result in systems changes and/or procedural changes due to compliance, regulation, maintenance, or process improvement.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Perform loan analysis, identify financial root cause or identify opportunities for synergy and integration focused on cost recovery, making independent recommendations for process improvement to line of businessManagement, business partners, and GSE and Investor representatives.

  • Drive management attention, through strategic documentation of research findings and calibration meetings regarding critical issues causing financial risk or loss; and provide innovative solutions for recoveries.

  • Complete assigned inventory for Loss Analysis and/or Default Reconciliation within established SLA’s

  • Responsible for reviewing or interpreting investor or servicing guidelines and business policies and procedures and make recommendations to improve billbacks and recovery. This includes engagement and outreach to third parties includingattorneys andvendors.

  • Leads operational and/or technical tasks/projects/assignments as assigned, including end to end identification of potential problems and consulting on appropriate resolution. Articulates issues and risks to management, including to up-stream business partners and operations. Provides support to department and business control to ensure timely completion.

  • Responsible for assessing cross impacts as part of project support related to cost recovery or expense reduction, which includes working directly with the LOB VPs to make independent recommendations on process changes and define implementation roadmaps

  • Interacts directly with investor representatives to explore solutions for increased financial recoveries

  • Consult on development of procedure and/or policy changes, process flows and presentations.

  • May assists in writing Business Requirements Documents, performs SIT and UAT testing, and/or production validation including tracking defects, tracking resolutions, and providing summaries for management. Troubleshoots production issues and recommends corrections or changes.

  • Monitor claim files and expense reimbursement for maximum funds recovery.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or other related disciplinestrongly preferred.

  • Excellent attention to detail, with ability to analyze detailed loan files and guidelines, to create rebuttals in support of recoverables with external agencies

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices is required.

  • Proficient in root cause analysis and problem solving.

  • One to three years of prior experience in accounting, loan reconciliation or analysis is preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft office, especially in Advanced Excel.

  • One to three years of prior experience in mortgage banking servicing and default, operations or originations.

  • Specific knowledge of the policies, procedures and systems pertaining to servicing/default, operations or originations is preferred.

  • Excellent project coordination and project tracking skills

  • Must demonstrate strong time management skills and ability to multi-task

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills for communication at all management levels, plus external regulators, investors, and vendors.

  • Proven ability to communicate technical information is at a business level
