Our six centers of excellence provide comprehensive services and deep expertise in key obstetric and pediatric areas: brain & behavior, cancer, heart, pregnancy & newborn, pulmonary and transplant. We also provide an additional, wide range of services for babies, kids and pregnant moms.

Job Summary

Program Director Comprehensive Single Ventricle Program

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (1.0 FTE)

Full-time nurse practitioner or physician assistant to launch and manage the longitudinal outpatient program for children with single ventricle physiology palliated with Glenn or Fontan procedures. In collaboration with the Medical Director, this staff member will help lead a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive care focused on optimizing outcomes and quality of life for single ventricle patients beyond infancy. This will include cardiac neurodevelopmental evaluations for all patients as well as other subspecialty services as needed. The nurse practitioner or physician assistant will facilitate care coordination among Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, community cardiologists, and other care providers. The holder of this position will participate in developing best practices as well as ongoing quality improvement efforts on behalf of this population to assess the impact on overall outcomes. He or she will also be involved in strategic planning and further development and expansion of longitudinal care services in the comprehensive single ventricle program.

Under the supervision of the Service Line Director of the Children’s Heart Center and in partnership with Chiefs of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery and the Medical Director of the Single Ventricle Program (SVP) and in concert with the LPCH mission and SHC mission, the Program Director of the Comprehensive Single Ventricle Program will provide clinical and administrative management for the program located at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and Stanford University Medical Center. The Program Director shall be responsible for the development and attainment of the service mission, short and long term goals, operational goals and objectives identified for the service, both clinical and operational. The Program Director and the Medical Director will collaboratively work to assure quality diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients and Medical Staff. The Program Director will work closely to coordinate needed operational planning activities for the overall benefit of the SVP within each of the Medical Centers. Coordinates and integrates diagnostic and therapeutic services programs and operational changes with other LPCH and SHC department Directors for proper implementation of services throughout the hospitals. Develops strong working relationships with Directors, Physicians, Managers and patients and families as well as community cardiologists as we build the program across the West Coast. It is expected that this individual will be a strong program builder as well as strategic thinker who has a proven track record in the field of Pediatric Cardiology and single ventricle care.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).

  • Acts as liaison between staff, physicians, other health professionals and administration.

  • Assists the Children’s Heart Center Service Line Director, the Director of Business Development for Cardiovascular Health at Stanford and the Medical Director of the SVP to set and achieve strategic programmatic goals across sites of service.

  • Assures the Quality Improvement Program is developed, implemented, and appropriately responsive to the quality needs and opportunities of the patient care arena.

  • Builds a collaborative network to ensure SVP patients have access to high quality primary care as well as a wide spectrum of pediatric and adult subspecialty providers.

  • Builds the avenue for collaborative learning and clinical research about single ventricle care.

  • Collaborates with LPCH/SHC/SoM professionals to design and implement clinical research projects with adherence to standard policy and procedure and actively participates in research study design, survey methodology, data analysis and results reporting.

  • Directs and controls operating expenses to meet budgetary requirements.

  • Ensures operations are in compliance with applicable regulatory and professional standards (JCAHO, Title XXIII, etc.)

  • Ensures proper departmental in-servicing and training to meet licensure requirements.

  • Monitors all aspects of Quality Assurance and Improvement in the Comprehensive Single Ventricle Program.

  • Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of program standards, procedures and protocols with input from the Medical Director as required.

  • Prepares annual operating and capital equipment budgets for the program: monitors monthly budget reports, explaining any operational variances as needed in accordance with Program goals.

  • Promotes and role models Collaborative Practice with other Healthcare disciplines.

  • Provides expertise and analysis regarding reimbursement and makes recommendations for business decisions.

  • Reviews department operations for cost and efficiency implements improvements, as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university

Experience: 10 years of department management experience of increasing levels of responsibility in a progressive healthcare environment.

License/Certification: PA - Valid California license to practice as a Physician Assistant - OR - NP - Valid California license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner
