Upward Bound is one of seven federally-funded TRiO programs. The Upward Bound program was established to provided fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal is to increase the rate at which participants complete the secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post-secondary education.


The Educational Advisor will assist the Project Director, is responsible for implementation of project objectives, meeting annual recruitment goals, provide services that will raise the achievement level of participants, develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with target school administrative staff. Evaluate and measure program outcomes, and design and implement and improvement plan to address participant needs. Supervise support staff to ensure that program operation is efficient and in compliance with the approved grant.

This position:

• Coordinate and provide academic, career, and personal advising to project participants • Identify and recruits, selects, enrolls and manages a caseload of students • Provides participants with academic advising and planning; career awareness and assessment; information about post-secondary options, college entrance examination, and financial aid; and assistance with the application process • Develops curriculum and implements workshops/seminars on college and career planning, financial literacy and personal development • Maintains files and records on participants document services provided, student progress and outcomes • Plans and coordinates college and career tours • Visits target schools to monitor participant progress and assist school staff with college planning process • Coordinates tutorial services and assists in pairing students with tutors; tracks student progress • Assist with the development and planning of educational and cultural field trips, and end of the year ceremony


• Bachelor's degree required (Masters Preferred) in education, social work, counseling from accredited college or university • Three years of full-time work experience in an educational setting developing and implementing academic services and activities to assist low-income, first generation, and disabled students who are in need of academic assistance • Two years of student academic advising/counseling experience (TRiO Experience Preferred)

Bonus Requirements:

• Experience advising and assisting students with college admissions and financial aid process • Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting project participants • Formal training and/or work experience in programming that improves secondary school retention/graduation rates • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
