Oviedo Medical Center , opening in Jan 2017- a 64-Bed acute care hospital with a 22-bed emergency department, will bring a full range of healthcare services to Seminole County and surrounding communities.   • Support Oviedo Medical’s hallmarks of service excellence and quality for all job responsibilities.

  • Acts as the primary secretarial resource for the charge nurse, and team leader for the nursing unit. Assists in ordering supplies and other assigned duties. Directs communication with the nursing unit. Assists in entering patient information in the Order Entry system and other computer terminals on the nursing unit. Is responsible for the smooth operation of all secretarial functions.

  • Answers nursing station telephone and relays messages to charge nurse and/or other nursing personnel.

  • Notifies charge nurse or triage nurse of all abnormal lab reports for follow up. Reviews all orders and calls to the attention of the nurse all STAT orders. Notifies charge nurse of all ER fax notifications

  • Notifies nurse for nursing orders

  • Assembles the medical record for transfer of patient. Makes all arrangements for transfer of patients to other hospitals, except talking with accepting physician. Makes copies of all relevant documentation, obtains x-rays, etc., and gets the patient ready for transport.

  • Prepares documentation for RN, Physician and supervisor review and/or signature, including COBRA forms

  • Calls consults

  • Notifies other departments of patient orders and coordinates their activities efficiently.

  • Assists Physicians Assists physician in obtaining computer reports and diagnostic results

  • Notifies Infection Control of all reportable diseases

  • Provides general clerical support for the unit such as completing Occurrence Report Forms, Keeps lab reports log book up to date , Pulls copies of orders and faxes copies to Pharmacy, Keeps patient flow board updated

  • Assists in the orientation of new nursing personnel as assigned by charge nurse and/or Nursing Director

  • Identifies, sequesters, and informs BioMedical Engineering of any malfunctioning

    *Shift-7p-7a & every other weekend required


    Education : High School graduate or equivalent

    Experience : Secretarial experience in a hospital setting preferred. Medical terminology required

    Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: BLS – AHA Healthcare Provider required

    Other Minimum Qualifications: Must have excellent organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, the ability to work independently and make decisions and take initiative when needed. Needs strong clerical and computer skills. Must possess the ability to follow directions and work well under stress and juggle priorities. Must be able to handle delicate matters with discretion and to communicate with all levels of employees, physicians, patients and families. General knowledge of Nursing Unit operation, excellent interpersonal skills, must be self-motivated, ability to set priorities, performs well in stress and emergency situations, ensures accuracy & completeness of work performed, follows established procedures performing job functions, demonstrates a thorough knowledge of Unit Coordinator work practices, follows through with assignments and informs Director if unable to complete task, adheres to established hospital and department guidelines & protocols, supports hospital mission, vision and values.
