System Development Engineer

System Development Engineer
Based in Ottawa, Kansas USA, this position will be responsible to perform system development design tasks related to New Product Development (NPD) and Advanced Engineering (AE) projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and documentation of components and systems
Ensure that designs and documentation meet specified technical customer demands, product safety, legislative requirements and internal demands
Provide support and/or solutions for service, production and supplier issues
Coordinate build and testing of prototype components
Fosters an environment that welcomes and encourages new and innovative design concepts, inventions, patents and product opportunities for improvement giving Kalmar Solutions a competitive edge over industry competitors.
Contributes to the overall profitability of new and existing products
Contributes to the increase of overall product quality
Contributes to cost reduction ideas related to component design on new and existing products
Frequently communicates with suppliers
On occasions, may communicate with dealers and equipment users regarding existing product issues
Participate/Lead design reviews, DFMEA’s and develop and manage validation plans
Provides frequent team progress updates to direct manager as needed
Ensures the use of engineering standards, methodologies and global product development processes into engineering team’s daily work tasks.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline is required
A minimum of five (5+) years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in mobile equipment application
Work with a variety of mechanical system design tasks, working through system requirement generation and system interaction definition.
Licensed PE or ability to obtain PE license is preferred.
Strong technical knowledge and aptitude toward mechanical design
Solid background in working in a project based, new product development environment and process
Strong understanding of assembly processes and good understanding of manufacturing processes
Strong skills in 3D CAD systems. CATIA V5 experience is preferred.
Theoretical and applied knowledge of structural, pneumatic and hydraulic systems related to mobile equipment.
Theoretical and applied knowledge of design for six sigma principles
Theoretical and applied knowledge of lean principles
Theoretical and applied knowledge of scrum development methodologies
Good understanding of structural analysis and testing, preferably in a mobile equipment environment
Excellent organizational skills
Demonstrate good analytical and problem solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
An extensive amount of independent thinking is required
Able to work under minimal supervision, with management guidance
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
