Start your culinary career at the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs as a Food Service Worker at our Washington Soldiers Home, you will be helping with food preparation and serving our residents.

Some of what you will do: Portion and dish food for service in the cafeteria following portions specified by serving guides and recipes. Monitor food for safe serving temperatures Perform food preparation such as cleaning, peeling, and cutting vegetables, fruits, breads, and meats Assist with preparing salads, sandwiches and desserts Deliver food carts to resident rooms and dining rooms Set, clear and wash dining room tables Wash dishes, pots and clean steam tables and coffee urns Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all food preparation, food storage, outside loading dock and garbage areas Performs other work as required


Required Qualifications:

Must Possess a Food Handler's permit


Be able to obtain a Food Handler's permit upon successful hire.

Must successfully pass a Criminal History Background check every two years and remain free from disqualifying convictions.

Employees must comply with health screening requirements by undergoing a tuberculosis skin test.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree or certificate in Culinary Arts

ServSafe Certification

Position may be required to work overtime and/or holidays

Positions in this classification are included in a union shop

Employees in these positions must be physically qualified to perform all of the duties of the position, which may involve extensive lifting

High production kitchen with a fast pace and safe working tempo
