Officially established in October 2006, the Orlando VA Medical Center serves more than 105,000 Veterans in Central Florida and includes a 120-bed Community Living Center, two Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs/Domiciliaries (60-beds located at the Lake Nona Campus and 58-beds at the Lake Baldwin Campus), three large multi-specialty Satellite Outpatient Clinics in Orlando (Lake Baldwin campus), Viera and Daytona Beach, and four Community-Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Orange City, and Tavares. The new medical center at Lake Nona is open for outpatient and inpatient services and will continue to expand inpatient beds, Emergency Services, and other specialty services throughout 2016/2017. As VA's newest state-of-the-art health care facility, Orlando's 65-acre medical campus encompasses 134 acute inpatient beds, providing complex Medical/Surgical/Mental Health specialty care, advanced diagnostic services, and a large multispecialty outpatient clinic.

Duties

Position Summary: We are seeking an innovative, energetic nurse leader for this important nursing management role. The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) functions as a supervisor and assumes accountability for the operation of the Emergency Department. This includes the management, supervision and evaluation of care delivered by nursing and other allied health care staff. As a registered nurse, the ANM demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise, leadership, and creative approaches to management of complex care. The Assistant Nurse Manager is also responsible for contributing to the establishment and implementation of evidenced-based nursing standards of practice. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, he/she creates a positive work environment which enhances care delivery and professional development of clinically competent staff. This RN is a nurse supervisor and provides oversight for the administration of leave, counseling and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Nurse Manager. The ANM serves as Acting Nurse Manager in the absence of the Nurse Manager. This Assistant Nurse Manager will report directly to the Nurse Manager, Emergency Department. Shift, weekend and holiday rotation is required. There will be irregular tours with rotation to other shifts as patient care needs require to provide 24 hour nursing coverage.

Qualifications

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) formerly the NLNAC or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a registered nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the US or in the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful Emergency Department clinical practice required, with at least one (1) year of recent nursing charge/leadership experience in an Emergency Department
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification highly preferred. Demonstrated skills in effectively managing human resources in previous assignments.highly preferred.
  • ACLS/BLS certification required.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in previous assignments to make critical decisions in stressful environments.
  • Demonstrated dependability for duty and flexibility in work assignments and hours in previous assignments.

National Service Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

*Grade Determinations: *Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization; Professional Development: performance, education/career development; Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality; Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.
