This position works directly for the Wildfire Division Fire Training Program Manager within the fire program for training and qualifications. The position interacts with Region Fire staff, Division staff, WA Fire Service, and other agency training staff to provide training and qualifications under National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) guidelines and meet Department mission and goals. The incumbent will provide support for the coordination, administration, and monitoring of the fire training program that serves DNR's state and local interagency partners. This position has a consistent work load that requires both organization and multi-tasking skills. This position will assist in coordinating NWCG and fire related training courses, along with reviewing fire training records and documentation to ensure NWCG standards are being met.



  • Experience developing training materials and delivering training courses.
  • Experience working in a Wildfire or Emergency Management program.
  • Working knowledge of wildfire operations, ICS, NWCG fire training doctrine/training guides, and required training.
  • Demonstrated writing and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, be detail oriented, take initiative, and function in a highly productive unit with little supervision in a team setting.
  • Proficient computer skills using MS Office Suite applications (Word, Power Point, Excel).


  • Qualified as a Lead Instructor with a certificate in Facilitative Instructor (M-410), Fire Service Instructor 1 or completed DNR'S Train the Trainer course.
  • NWCG Training Specialist (TNSP) qualified or ability to achieve qualifications within 24 months.
  • Working knowledge and experience using IQS web, IQCS and/or ROSS systems.
  • Fire line suppression experience. Skills and experience working with inter-agency fire cooperators.
  • Able to effectively deal with change and diverse people. SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to work on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.

  • The incumbent in this position is required to travel. Must have a valid driver's license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function. Employees who drive for state business, whether in a state or privately-owned vehicle, are required to possess a valid license as defined in policy PO02-006 and abide by all other driver responsibility requirements.
