Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Development, Early Childhood Education or closely related field plus experience teaching in an early childhood group setting. Experience hiring, evaluating, training, supervising, managing and mentoring staff of a licensed child development center.

The Master Teacher (MT) supports the center Director in the operation of the Child Development Center by hiring, supervising and evaluating teaching staff and serving as a person in charge. It is this person’s responsibility to provide and facilitate training and ensure that licensing and accreditation training requirements are met. The MT also collaborates with teaching staff to develop and implement the center’s emergent and developmentally appropriate curriculum and practices. The MT team teaches with full time staff to provide hands on modeling and substitutes in the classroom when needed. The MT partners with teaching and administrative staff to encourage ethical conduct and to communicate with parents about classroom practices. The MT works with the administrative staff to promote the program in the community. Must have a thorough knowledge of early childhood curriculum and the ability to articulate it for others. Must have experience working with infants, toddlers and preschool age children and guiding teachers who work with these populations. Must enjoy working with a diverse group of teachers and university students. This position requires experience in hiring, evaluating, coaching, training and mentoring staff. The MT must have problem solving skills, organizational skills and an appreciation of diversity in families and staff. Applicants must enjoy working with children, their families and teachers of young children.
Facilitates professional collaboration and learning through team teaching, hands on classroom modeling, goal setting and professional development.Provides employee supervision and appraises teachers in a timely and thoughtful manner.Supervises, observes and evaluates classrooms and teaching staff. Conferences with teachers regarding announced and unannounced observations. Engages in reflective supervision.Assesses program needs and ensures best practice in implementation of classroom curriculum, assessment, and school/home communications through review, training, mentoring and oversight.Posts and reviews job openings, screens applications, serves on search committees for all teacher hiring.Interviews teaching assistant candidates and makes recommendations for hire.Develops and maintains systems for recording observations, maintaining educational documentation and assessing teacher progress.Mentors the classroom staff, providing advice and assistance in meeting their goals. Guides teachers regarding developmental issues or educational needs of children. Provides support to teachers and parents with children who have challenging behaviors.Acts as a liaison between the Family & Child Development faculty and the Child Development Center teachers.Substitutes as classroom teacher in various age groups as needed.Serves as the third designated person in charge of center in absence of the director and assistant director.Collaborates with administrative staff to assure compliance of accreditation and licensing standards.Collaborates withCDCadministration in the promotion and development of theCDC.
