The Legal Department of J.P. Morgan is seeking a highly motivated individual to join us in advising on the creation and ongoing management of a mutual fund complex for our wealth management clients.

Roles and Responsibilities:

We are looking for an experienced mutual fund attorney to support a new series of mutual funds for wealth management clients. The attorney will advise on all aspects of the creation of the mutual fund complex, and the ongoing management, oversight and distribution of the funds. The attorney will:

  • Provide advice with respect to overall relationship with, and individual matters for, the Board of Trustees of the Funds, ensuring that the Board meets all regulatory requirements and is provided with the information needed to carry out oversight responsibilities.

  • Advise on legal issues, policies and governance of Fund Administration and related functions.

  • Offer legal insight on product development and implementation with respect to innovations in the product line supported by the mutual fund complex, including work with portfolio managers, control partners and risk partners.

  • Provide legal support for fund registration statements, agreements, operations, regulations, policies and procedures.

  • Work closely with other members of the legal department, and other control functions (e.g., Compliance, Risk) across Asset Management and the firm.

  • Coordinate as needed with other divisions of Asset & Wealth Management and J.P. Morgan.

Qualifications

  • JD Degree.

  • A 5 years of relevant mutual fund experience with a law firm or investment management firm required.

  • Attorney must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction.

  • Document drafting experience, including mutual fund offering documents and distribution agreements.

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to be a proactive, dynamic member of a team.

  • Ability to both collaborate across legal teams and businesses and lead, as required.
