Weill Cornell Medical College Clinical Technician in New York, New York

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Clinical Technician performs patient care activities for the Division’s Myeloma Center.

Position Activities

Directs patient to exam room, assists the physician during special procedures and examination, including sending blood samples to the appropriate labs.

Provides back-up support for receiving and moving patients through reception, exam, and treatment areas.

Prepares labels for blood, urine and bone marrow samples and assists in disbursing samples to appropriate laboratories.

Provides lunch schedules, daily clinic schedule for physicians and assigning technicians to each exam room.

Performs vital signs, EKG’s phlebotomy, pregnancy tests, urine collections, blood pressure, weight, and height. Assists with bone marrow aspirations and other procedures. Records all patient results and distributes it to the appropriate physician for viewing.

Acts as liaison with other departments to acquire patient information (test results, medical background, etc.). Labels specimens and makes sure that pick-ups are done in a timely fashion.

Prepares exam rooms for patient exams and procedures; ensures that required supplies and materials are available for exams and that rooms are clean and neat. Orders supplies for clinic and checks supply room for expired items.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma.

Completion of a medical assistant training course that includes phlebotomy or certified in phlebotomy.

One year of experience performing Medical Assistant duties.

Highly Desired Requirements

Experience in assisting with bone marrow biopsy preferred.

Previous experience working with EPIC or other EMR system.

Bachelor’s degree.
