Your Role:

The Team Leader has overall autonomy for management of Vanderbilt University Medical Center's nightly diagnostic histotechnology laboratory, involved with the process of cutting and embedding paraphin blocks to make slides, some staining – some specialized staining and IHC utilizing advanced apparatuses. This scope of responsibility includes effectively leading a team of nine laboratory professionals and operational accountability for insuring proper laboratory services are delivered in a timely and high quality manner.

Ultimately, the Team Leader defines performance standards and manages processes that produce consistent outcomes which meet and exceed quality and regulatory standards. The Team Leader plans, coordinates and supervises the activities of personnel engaged in testing and implements new technology. In support of the Medical Laboratory Scientist programs, the Team Leader appropriately assign's laboratory professionals to serve as instructors for the primary training of the MLS students. Additionally, the Team Leader collaborates with Research and Fellows In Training as necessary. Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences with HTL or HT Certification

  • Prior managerial experience or a minimum of 4 years diagnostic histopathology experience with the proven ability to lead others

Position Shift:

  • Exempt, start time is around 11pm CST with approximately 20-25% benchwork
