nABOUT MUSKOGEE OPERATIONSGeorgia-Pacific?s Muskogee, Oklahoma, operations is one of the largest paper mills in the world making tissue and towel products. More than 900 employees produce a wide range of products for the consumer and away-from-home (professional) market, including Mardi Gras branded napkins and Sparkle branded towels sold on store shelves, and Compact bath tissue products for restaurants, hotels and other away-from-home locations. The mill is one of the largest employers in Muskogee and maintains a very positive relationship with the community.nn

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:



nThis role will work with the support and mentoring of the public affairs manager in Savannah, Georgia, focusing on using internal and external communications to increase mill long-term value and understanding of GP and the business. This includes developing a strong employee communications program and being a valuable resource to the mill leadership team and maintaining a positive relationship with the community and local media. The position reports to the public affairs manager at Georgia-Pacific?s Savannah River Mill with a strong dotted-line to the Muskogee Mill vice president ? operations. font size="2"> The public affairs manager initially will spend approximately 60% of his/her time on internal communications work, 30% on public affairs work (community relations and government interaction) and 10% on proactive and reactive media relations.Responsibilities:nn

+ Develop, implement and manage a comprehensive employee communications program at the mill, as well as internal communications support of critical mill and company initiatives, including use of best practices from public affairs and communications managers at other GP mills.


+ Establish and maintain the means to detect signals of company vulnerability in external and internal environments; develop communications plan for crises and serve as a member of the crisis management team.


+ Advise the mill management team of issues, attitudes and opinions both inside and outside the company that could affect mill operations. This includes establishing a climate of cooperation with employees and implementing or helping support necessary programs to maintain GP?s position as a leader in a highly competitive industry.
