Skagit County Temporary Accounting Technician III 98 in Mount Vernon, Washington
Please note that this is a temporary, non-benefited position that is not intended to exceed a period of 18 weeks. Prepares and maintains financial data for posting to general ledger, special ledgers, and other fiscal records to reflect accurate accounting and distribution of income and expenses to appropriate accounts. Accumulates specialized financial data from source documents and verifies for accuracy. Reconciles accounts and adjusts irregularities. Prepares and maintains payroll data for posting to general ledger and preparation of payroll checks. Essential Functions: Prepares vouchers for payment, including verification of computation and correct coding. Assures accurate recording, balancing, and classification of all income and expenditures to proper departmental accounts in accordance with BARS and County procedures. Prepares and maintains accounts receivable for all Public Works divisions. Prepares and maintains a variety of monthly reports, worksheets, and trial balances to keep management informed of the financial condition of the Department. Assists in preparation of the annual financial report. Responds to inquiries, providing information and data analysis. Coordinates with the State Auditor during the annual audit of the Department's financial records. Prepares and maintains payroll data for posting to general ledger and preparation of payroll checks. Coordinates with the Auditor's Office to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing. Verifies time tickets, coordinates payroll changes with the Personnel Office, and produces payroll and other corresponding reports. Prepares and reviews entries and documents prepared by others to insure accuracy, propriety, proper account coding, adequate explanations and other applicable information in accordance with County and State regulations. Reconciles accounts and adjusts irregularities. Audits subsidiary journals, registers, and other original entries for accuracy and propriety. Recommends, establishes, and maintains accounting procedures for the division, as approved by management. Assigns cost account numbers to track project expenditures. Maintains a file of contracts and resolutions, and verifies pay estimates for compliance. Directs work activities of assigned employees of lower classification. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS : Continually analyzes the various departmental accounts, financial summaries and statements, and recommends improvements or revisions in the accounting system or its procedures, as authorized. Performs other related accounting functions as may be assigned and developed.
