Correctional Industries (CI) *within the Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual as a *General Manager - Industries Manager 5 (IM5). This position is located at the Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) in Monroe, WA.

As the most senior CI employee at MCC this position is responsible to supervise and provide administrative leadership to subordinate staff and implement CI policies at their assigned facility and to participate as a member of the Corporate Management Team.

MCC is a 2,400-bed male all-custody level facility located 30 miles northeast of Seattle. The complex consists of four units; the original "reformatory", a large mental health inpatient treatment unit, a sex offender treatment unit and a minimum custody unit that also houses community corrections violators, much like a jail. Monroe is considered the hub of medical and psychiatric care for DOC. It is located close to the University of Washington and Harbor view Medical Center. MCC provides care for the sickest and most complicated patients in our system.

The Department consists of the Office of the Secretary, Prisons Division, Correctional Industries, Community Corrections Division, Policy Support Division, Administrative Services Division, Offender Change Division, and Health Services Division. Responsible for the operation of all Correctional Industries manufacturing or service units at the Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC). Manages multiple operations, to include food service operations, statewide commissary operations, laundry services, a 10,000 sq. ft. warehouse, a print shop, and a tab shop. Monitors and ensures compliancy with all DOC policies, legislative mandates and RCWs related to the management and intent of Correctional Industries. In addition, the position is responsible for the supervision and management of CI staff, representation of CI to the Institution, management of the CI offender workforce and other management duties as assigned to ensure the success of the CI program. This position is a significant contributor to 710.400 Correctional Industries Class II Employment, and is additionally relied upon to review, evaluate, and submit recommendations on a number of other policies that impact the assignment to and operations of Correctional Industries work programs.



  • Minimum 4 years experience in progressively responsible management or supervisory position

  • Strong influence, change management and relationship building skills DESIRED:

  • Bachelors Degree from a recognized accredited college and/or university whose accreditations are recognized by U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Business, Public Administration or closely related field

  • 2 years experience in a production/manufacturing facility
  • 2 years experience project management
  • Experience working with incarcerated individuals
  • Experience teaching/training


  • This position is exempt from Washington's civil service rules: Exempt employment is considered "at will," and there are no contractual employment rights. Exempt employees serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment, and submit to a criminal background check
  • Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training
  • Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the DOC
  • Become familiar and comply with all DOC policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Submit to drug testing in accordance with agency policy
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test
  • Must successfully complete Correctional Worker Core (CWC) training program for integration with offenders
