The Corporate Enterprise Risk Group (CERG) within Corporate Risk is responsible for independently overseeing a broad collection of activities and risk types.

Wells Fargo is embarking on plans to develop an enhanced risk appetite program for the Enterprise - a key initiative in improving the Bank’s proactive risk management capabilities. The Enterprise Risk Appetite Manager will lead designed and implementation of significant enhancements to the company’s risk appetite program across all key risk types and business groups. Program enhancements cover defining risk appetite statements, metric and boundary design, governance (including policy and procedures), reporting to executive management and the Board, and integration with other enterprise programs, such as risk identification, CCAR, stress testing, business strategic planning.

This leader will set direction of changes to the program ensuring that risk appetite statements and associated thresholds are developed with a linkage to a company-wide definition of risk capacity (i.e. maximum level of risk the company can assume). The role requires interaction with multiple senior leaders within the organization, supporting the Enterprise Risk Management Committee and the Risk Committee of the board, internal audit and regulators. This lead must have strong knowledge on the various risk functions (credit, market, investment, operational, compliance, international, etc.) and strong project management skills.

This leader will manage a small team of risk appetite experts, as the primary implementation lead to the risk types and business groups. The team works daily with stakeholders to translate enterprise guidance into reality, providing assistance, credible challenge and ensuring program remains on target to meet deliverables.

The preferred location is San Francisco, but other Wells Fargo locations may be considered (Charlotte, Minneapolis, Des Moines, etc.)

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: finance, risk, or audit

  • 5+ years of management experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of audit, regulatory compliance, or risk management

  • Ability to manage large-scale initiatives including stakeholders across business and technical teams

  • Virtual leadership experience with ability to effectively drive results, provide feedback/direction, and manage and build relationships with leaders and team members in a geographically dispersed team environment

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision in a structured environment

  • Experience working in a large enterprise environment

  • Ability to influence and collaborate at all internal organizational levels

  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment

  • A Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Designation

  • Ability to prepare management level presentations

  • Ability to influence, partner, and negotiate with senior business leaders to gain commitment to accomplish business goals
