This position is located in the Minden Behavioral Health Clinic in Minden, LA, which is a part of the NW LA Human Services District. (www.NLHSD.org)
The incumbent will provide recovery, relapsed prevention and resiliency centered and client/family focused Specialty Clinic Professional Counselor Services that includes psychosocial assessment and implementation of behavioral health counseling and treatment to a high risk population with addictive disorders, serious and persistent mental illness, severe emotional and behavioral disturbance or co-occurring disorders. This position requires independent clinical judgment.
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Professional Counselor 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). The maximum salary for the Professional Counselor 4 is $71,344 annually. Registration as either a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor or a Provisional Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist by the Louisiana Board of Licensed Professional Counselors.
Pursuant to Act 484 of the 2014 Legislative Session and effective May 1, 2015, Counselor Interns are now called "Provisional Licensed Professional Counselors" (PLPCs) and MFT Interns are now called "Provisional Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists" (PLMFTs).
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide professional counseling services.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Close from a licensed behavioral health professional or higher-level manager or administrator.
LOCATION OF WORK:
May be used by all state agencies.
Differs from the Social Service Counselor job series by presence of recognition as a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern or a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern by the Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners.
Differs from the Professional Counselor 2 by the absence of greater independence and more complex caseloads.

Obtains and prepares social histories of clients for information to be reviewed by treatment teams and for use in referrals to other agencies.
Participates in the decision making process of the treatment team including formulating therapeutic activities and recommending a treatment plan.
Manages a caseload by scheduling appointments, evaluating client progress in counseling sessions, and making recommendations to the treatment team.
Performs intensive individual interviews with patients experiencing crises and multiple situational problems.
Evaluates information in case records in order to recommend changes in psychosocial intervention.
Performs goal-directed and supportive individual and group interviews with clients experiencing crises or multiple situational problems.
Assists in the procurement of needs such as institutional placements, transportation, financial assistance, medical equipment, shelter, food, clothing, etc.
Serves as liaison between the client, family and the agency/institution.
