Position Purpose & Summary:

The Customs Coordinator conducts day-to-day customs related activities associated with bringing procured cocoa powder, butter, liquor and beans into US contracted warehouses, our plants or directly to customers. This position also coordinates the cross border customs activities of moving products (finished and intermediate goods) into and out of the US. The Customs Coordinator works internally with the Customer Service Representatives, the Commodity Procurement team and other Supply Chain teams. External to the BU, this role interacts with the Cargill Transportation and Logistics Team (CTL), Cargill Global Tax and Customs, brokers and steamship lines. Customer focus and ensuring compliance with Federal Customs laws is paramount for this role. This position also assists in providing customs support for importing manufacturing parts and equipment.

Principal Accountabilities:

Customs Coordination 45%

  • Plans and coordinates import activities of cocoa powder, cocoa liquor, cocoa butter and cocoa beans from foreign origins to North American destinations(US contracted warehouses, our plants or direct to our customers)

  • Monitors physical positions of all goods and ensures timely goods movements as per purchasing/sales contracts balances and specifications

  • Coordinates the cross border customs activities of moving products, finished and intermediate goods into and out of the US.

  • Interacts with foreign origins and North American import brokers accordingly to ensure seamless entries into and out of the US.

  • Coordinates logistics movement of goods procured or sold

  • Responsible for inventory reporting and timely reconciliation with 3rd parties and plants. Close coordination with commodity procurement team to make sure we have sufficient raw materials for the production facilities

  • Ensures compliance with Federal Laws and Cargill regulations related to customs

  • Ensures completion of all related ERP system transactions associated with customs processes

  • Focus on cost effectiveness

  • Execute to meet or exceed customer requirements

Client Interaction and Business Partnership 25%

  • Provides guidance and assistance to export entities and Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate Europe related to importation of cocoa powder, butter and beans.

  • Keeps Commodity procurement, finance and supply chain planning teams up dated on physical position of goods

  • Coordinates movement of goods procured or sold by instructing carriers and shippers and by working with Cargill Ocean Transportation, customs brokers, and steam ship lines for equitable and efficient freight rates

  • Regular communication and collaboration with CCNA Business Unit Customer Service Representatives, Commodity Procurement team, Warehouse Logistics Coordination team, along with Cargill Transportation and Logistics Function and Cargill Global Tax and Customs Function.

  • Work closely with supply chain production planning and plant personnel to monitor availability of commodity ingredients. Coordinates transfers to plants and organizes transport.

  • Operational administration duties:

  • Obtain ownership of receive goods procured. Responsible for all shipping documents pertaining to goods purchased and received

  • Check weight notes and goods receipts from warehouses. Handle issues and damage with regards to goods received

  • Administer invoices of goods procured, freight, insurance, and pre-payments. Finalize weights, goods quality and invoices.

  • Performs administrative duties:

  • Provide auditing and/or processing of import/export documentation and/or logistics service provider invoices

  • ERP transactions in SAP and JDE

  • Other routine clerical tasks

Data Management/analysis and Reporting 15%

  • Solicit, collect and organize documentation and data in order to perform routine data entry into ERP business systems.

  • Prepare reports from existing data using system generated reporting tools, spreadsheets, databases, etc.

  • Provides and forwards data, documentation and reports to support stakeholders in the area of customs operations and related shipment execution

Supply Chain Collaboration and Support 10%

  • Serve as a member and collaborative member of the CCNA Supply Chain team. Assist others with providing logistics information and knowledge. Provide back-up assistance to others as necessary

Any other duties as assigned 5%

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent

  • Minimum 2 years of Transportation, Logistics

  • Minimum 2 years of Customs experience

  • Basic level of using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook or PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated high level of commitment to customer care and service

  • Strong communication skills with all levels of organization(written and verbal)

  • Ability to prioritize, strong follow-up skills and attention to detail

  • Proficient mathematical and analytical skills

  • Must be willing to accept accountability and work well in a collaborative team based environment

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced and changing work environment

  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to multi task

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree

  • Broader Supply Chain experience

  • Experience in supporting a manufacturing environment

  • SAP and/or JDE experience
