Engine Calibration Specialist

Engine calibration engineers work with vehicles, software and algorithms to design and release engine calibrations to meet customer design and performance requirements. They support the lead calibrator and diagnostic strategist, as well as stakeholders including the members of the vehicle platform, manufacturing plant and quality team. They ensure powertrain integration to vehicles perform at world class levels to meet program objectives.

Job functions:

Specialists are integrally involved in the development of calibrations which support control functions and diagnostic capability of the engine systems. Depending on the area of responsibility, a specialist may focus more heavily on control or diagnostic calibration functionality

  • Develops quality calibrations with support from Standard Work guidelines and procedures
  • Maintains documentation supporting the content of their calibration
  • Suggests calibration procedure enhancements and readily shares lessons learned
  • Optimizes calibrations through data collection and analysis to meet program requirements
  • Designs, reviews, and posts calibrations to support interim and production milestone events
  • Coordinates calibration activities with Vehicle and Powertrain personnel to maximize resource efficiency Supports Durability & Validation vehicles and testing
  • Represents Powertrain on development test trips
  • Utilizes analytical tools (e.g. modeling, simulation) in calibration design process
  • Supports development of dynamometer tools for calibration development
  • Confirms that new software features integrate with control system to meet functionality requirements Perform root cause analysis and error correction of system level problems relating to calibration, controls, hardware, software, and architecture
  • Works with calibration and controls engineers to support new feature algorithm requirements development
  • Actively participate in calibration peer reviews
  • Actively participate in subsystem Product Development Team meetings
  • Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programs
  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products

Required Qualifications:

  • BSE, BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of powertrain systems
  • Understanding of complex systems
  • Mechanical and controls aptitude
  • Understanding of data acquisition and analysis
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required to meet mutual
  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Engineering with concentrations in Controls or Electronics
  • Knowledge of Engine Control Systems and Calibration
  • Knowledge of INCA/ETAS data acquisition
  • Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering
  • Knowledge of vehicle data recording systems
