General Motors Development and Validation Engineer - POW0004958 in Milford, Michigan

We're seeking a motivated candidates for a Vehicle Control Development and Validation Engineer position in GM's Electrification group at the Milford Proving Grounds. The selected candidate will work on GM's hybrid/EV programs and will be responsible for vehicle validation and integration of hybrid controls systems, conducting validation testing, vehicle troubleshooting, and development of test plans. The Development Validation Engineer will work cohesively with a group of engineers responsible for the integration of electrification systems and controls.

The position involves significant on-vehicle work involving the test tracks, high feature test facilities, and environmental test chambers. Dev/Val engineers work in a cross-functional team, are expected to handle multiple projects/priorities, and frequently have to balance planned and unplanned work. A typical week includes invehicle testing, results analysis, test plan development, and collaboration with calibration, algorithm/software, and controls engineers.

Key Role and Responsibilities:

  • Execution of LADV plans for development and validation of hybrid control systems
  • Conducting peer reviews for test plans
  • Providing validation input to the PDTs/TRBs
  • Support development and testing of new vehicle features/functions
  • Writing and updating GMW test procedures and related CG
  • Supporting development vehicle fleet with troubleshooting and data collection
  • Support integration vehicle, ManVal, and production builds at PPO and assembly facilities
  • Update development, durability, and crashworthiness vehicle with new VeSCoM release software
  • Support for durability and crashworthiness teams with hybrid controls
  • Define root cause of issues found during development and validation testing
  • Utilize Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS)
  • Coordinate test plans with other test engineers
  • Conduct and participate in verification and development trips
  • Documentation of all test processes and issue engineering reports
  • Plan and implement complex test and/or development activities
  • Evaluate engineering changes and there effect on validation test plans
  • Actively participate in and report out to the program teams
  • Ensure electrification system integration meets customer expectation
  • Adhere to all Safety Precautions and Requirements, and treat safety as the top priority during all work activities

Basic Qualification:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Ability to pass advanced drivers training
  • Proficient computer skills including creating presentation
  • High level of analytical ability
  • Time management skills to meet deliverables and manage multiple projects
  • Interpersonal styles and communication skills to work effectively with local and international team members
  • Technical writing ability to create written engineering evaluation reports
  • Have at least two years of experience with electrification or controls background

Prefered Qualification:

  • Engineering Degree (ME, EE, or CS preferred)
  • High voltage or electrified vehicle safety training and hands on experience
  • Knowledge of development and test engineering procedures
  • Experience working with vehicles integration issues
  • Experience working with hybrid electrification system
  • Proficient with INCA / MDA / CANalyzer / Vehicle Spy
  • Experience with loading and updating vehicle software and calibrations
