Assurant Corporate Claims Manager in Miami, Florida

Assurant has an exciting opportunity for a Corporate Claims Manager!

This individual will administer corporate insurance high deductible workers’ compensation program and auto insurance program and supporting statutory/ regulatory/ and procedural documentation such as posting notices, ID cards, and OSHA reports. Track exposures and process ERM14s. Report payroll exposures and work on premium audits and invoices. Assist in the selection and implementation of loss prevention and reduction methods such as return to work initiatives. Work proactively with facility site coordinators, injured claimants, the insurance companies and outside counsel. Maintain claims tracking systems and perform monthly claim file reviews for current and previous terms. Responsible for financial tracking of claims, for working with auditors on providing information for reserve calculations, and for preparing various reports needed in support of the programs. Report and track all claims and prepare allocations for budget.

    • Manage and mitigate exposures to risk by formulating, developing and coordinating all property and casualty claim-related activities, as well as bona fide claims at the least possible cost through various risk mitigation and risk transfer techniques. Understand and communicate claims management philosophy and strategy to the business units and all levels of management. Ensure that case reserves are maintained at a level of case reserve adequacy that is reflective of what the company may pay in indemnity or loss adjustment exposure.

    • Oversee and direct the day-to-day management of the claims program to ensure the proper and efficient handling of claims, gathering of information on claims for both record keeping and loss forecasting purposes, and estimating the financial value of the claim. Understand programs, policies and procedures for: reporting, investigation, analysis, litigation management, resolution/outcome management and delivery of claim information. Knowledgeable of Workers’ Compensation and Auto Liability claim management best-practices, policies and procedures, of statutory and regulatory requirements and of the financial implication to the company of claim reserve activities.

    • Ensure that coverage analysis and decisions regarding extension or denial of insurance coverage are appropriately evaluated and communicated to Management. Collaborate with internal and external service providers in regard to recommendations on return to work programs and appropriate, timely and cost-efficient utilization of medical care for injured employees.

    • Responsible for the implementation and practice of all claims handling guidelines and directives outlined in the Special Service Instructions (“SSI”) with the third-party administrator (“TPA”). Supervise TPA claims administration and assure that the best adjusters are assigned and teams utilized. Perform audits with TPA/broker to verify appropriate claim handling protocols and quality standards are being followed and validate reserve practices accordingly.

    • Manage and set strategy for annual motor vehicle program. Manage driver expectations, deliver fleet policies to authorized drivers and maintain the company approved driver list. Adjudicate motor vehicle reports using established point system, make determinations on eligibility and keep Management apprised of developments.

    • Responsible for post loss reduction techniques such as salvage, subrogation and rehabilitation.

    • Special projects, tasks and duties as assigned by Management.

  • Basic Qualifications *

    • High school degree required

    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in worker’s compensation claims adjusting or claims management.

    • Must be willing to travel as needed, but no more than 10%.

    • Adjuster License, ARM or CPCU, preferred .

    Previous Experience

    • Requires strong understanding of risk mitigation and claims management strategies, including regulatory and jurisdictional requirements.

    • Strong PC skills including MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

    • Strong familiarity with carrier claims systems and with generating reports.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Proven ability to effectively manage claims as well as prioritize a high volume of complex matters simultaneously.

    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to management, employees and others outside the organization.

    • Adept in managing multiple projects with tight deadlines and changing priorities.

    • Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills.

    • Proactive and results-driven. Ability to implement new ideas, produce solutions and seize opportunities to mitigate risks.

    • Must be committed to organizational and individual growth.

    • Ability to cross-train with Risk Analyst.

    • Must be good with math.
