Washington State DSHS Physician 3 (Eastern State Hospital) in Medical Lake, Washington


The Department of Social and Health Services' Behavioral Health Administration (BHA), is seeking a motivated Physician 3 to join our team. This full-time opportunity is located at Eastern State Hospital (ESH). The hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday (Saturday and Sunday off).

Some of the duties

Physician 3's provide intake assessments, ongoing medical care, and discharge planning and preparation for patients. They also diagnose, prescribe, and administer treatment, perform minor surgical procedures within privilege, and order and analyze x-ray and lab results.

These Physicians coordinate with ESH staff and other consultants, through the initial and ongoing plan of care process, rounds and otherwise, to oversee the medical treatment offered to address or respond to patient identified needs. This person will participate in coverage for other Physicians, quality assurance activity, and peer review and performance improvement processes; develop, implement and monitor performance standards and policies impacting Physician services; and attend all committee assignments.


Who should apply

You have a valid license to practice medicine and surgery in the State of Washington, or the ability to obtain a valid license prior to employment, and have completed an approved residency program in family, internal, geriatric, or equivalent specialty area, and are eligible for board certification in that specialty. Additionally:

  • Obtain sufficient continuing education to maintain current competency in the position held.
  • Ability to meet advanced lifesaving and CPR certification requirements.

Here's what we're looking for

We would like to find someone who has the ability to work with an adult psychiatric population who may exhibit behavioral, emotional, medical, and/or correctional problems that manifest as inappropriate and non-compliant/aggressive in nature. Also, someone who has the ability to document care in an electronic medical recordkeeping environment.

Salary for this job: Competitive base salary to $222,192 DOQ annually, plus pay for board certification.

Eastern State Hospital (ESH) is a fully accredited, state-owned, 287 bed psychiatric hospital serving eastern Washington by providing evaluation and inpatient treatment for adults with serious or long-term mental illness.
