Washington State DSHS Nursing Assistant (MHT 1) - Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake, Washington

Eastern State Hospital is seeking motivated Mental Health Technicians with a passion for helping people with mental health issues to join our team. Both full-time and on-call positions are available.

The above salary reflects a 12.5% increase starting September 1, 2016.

Some of the duties

Mental Health Technicians are responsible for providing nursing care to patients under the direction of a registered nurse; deliver care per individual treatment plan; follow all hospital, state, and federal regulatory standards, policies and procedures; de-escalate patients; lift and transfer patients; communicate information to the Registered Nurse 3, regarding changes of condition and clinical information; escort and transport patients.

There are opportunities to assist with the orientation of new employees to the disciplines and the department, and lead/co-lead groups and document participation.* *

Our on call staff typically work four shifts per week (32 hours) and provide patient care during the hospital's peak need times (weekends, holidays, and vacation periods). The hours include a combination of weekday and weekend shifts.

Who should apply

People who are registered as a nursing assistant in the State of Washington, and have a high school diploma or GED.

NOTE: Proof of education will be required at the time of the interview

  • Someone who is able to communicate with management, peers, clients, and the public
  • Someone who is proficient in the operation of the following equipment: computer, copy machine, metal detector, and patient lifting equipment
  • Someone who is willing to adjust scheduled hours of work to meet the hospital's workload demands
  • Someone who is willing to work with patients who have behavioral, emotional, psychiatric, social, medical, and/or correctional problems, and who may exhibit inappropriate non-compliant and/or aggressive behavior
