JetBlue Airways Intern in Long Island City, New York

Position Title: Intern, Academic Programs (Full-Time, 6 Months Minimum)

Position Summary

The Intern, Academic Programs, assists the Academic Programs team in the development and maintenance of academic programs and advisement for JetBlue Crewmembers, including degree completion programs, certificate programs and other professional development online courses. The intern will assist in the development of systems, materials and resources needed to scale the JetBlue Scholars program. The intern will also serve as an academic advisor for Crewmembers enrolled in the program.

The intern is comfortable building relationships throughout the organization; works well under pressure and time constraints and has the ability to respond to Crewmember needs within short notice and during different times of the day. The intern also excels when working on a variety of different tasks or projects while exhibiting the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun

Essential Responsibilities

  • Create documents that outline academic programs for Crewmembers

  • Research opportunities for program enhancements

  • Assist in the development of new course content

  • Serve as a mentor or advisor for JetBlue Crewmembers enrolled in college studies

  • Develop materials to support current and new aspects of program

  • Respond to ad-hoc requests and partner with Compliance, Crew Relations, Compensation, Talent Acquisition, Crewmember Insight, and Organizational Effectiveness to ensure alignment with Talent Management and People programs

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Counseling, Education, Communications, Business, or related field

  • One (1) year experience in mentoring, advising, or counseling.

  • Available for occasional overnight travel (up to 25%)

  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills

  • Strong research, analytical, problem-solving and decision making capabilities

  • Strong team player with the ability to take initiative and work well independently

  • Ability to work to deadlines with quick turnaround

  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and diplomacy

  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test

  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education/Education, Psychology, Counseling, Business, Social Work, or Related Field

  • Experience with academic advising or coaching in a post-secondary environment

  • Previous administration, research and/or project management experience

  • Interacting daily with people at different levels within the organization, including developing and maintaining ongoing relationships

  • Knowledge of non-traditional college credit opportunities

Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice

  • Well groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance

  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun

  • Promote JetBlue’s #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards

  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR)
