Business Unit Overview:

ETF and Index Investments (EII) is the business unit that delivers passively managed (index) investment vehicles and portfolio solutions to the entire spectrum of the BlackRock client base. iShares is the brand name for the world's largest range of exchange traded funds (ETFs), which are marketed and managed by BlackRock. As a complement to the iShares ETF offer, BlackRock manages a broad set of index mutual funds across various fund platforms and domiciles to meet specific client needs.

Job Purpose/Background:

EII ETF EMEA is seeking an individual to support the COO team to design and implement best practice COO business management processes for BlackRock’s ETF business in EMEA. The successful candidate will, in particular, be responsible for working with Finance to come up with the necessary metrics to enable management to have a granular view of business performance; managing budgets, headcount and investments across functions; implementing various HR initiatives; and supporting and executing on other COO processes such as complaints handling/reporting, data storage initiatives, and Business Continuity Management as may be required.

The role will bring the individual into regular contact with senior stakeholders across the business and therefore being comfortable in these circles, while providing subject matter detail, is crucial. Close interaction with all business functions (Sales, Capital Markets, Product, Marketing and Strategy) is expected, as well as with other key central functions within BlackRock – HR, Finance, Legal and Compliance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Track and report financial results, jointly with Finance. Design and implement a set of metrics/dashboard to be shared with the Management team to assess the business performance across our product lines
  • Manage budgets; in particular review budget allocations / tracking methodology; and implementation of T&E guidance for EMEA
  • Validating and processing invoices
  • Produce EMEA Quarterly Budget Reviews
  • Manage headcount pipeline and reconciliations alongside the COO and HR recruitment team
  • Coordinate spring/summer intern, graduate analyst and associate programmes including:

  • Recruitment

  • Onboarding
  • Manage rotational programme
  • Own the talent cycle for the interns
  • Develop and schedule lunch & learn sessions
  • Manager training

  • Partner with HR to to set and execute annual talent priorities; in particular develop a functional curriculum by level (Associate / VP priority); and roll-out various existing initiatives (Diversity & Inclusion; manager training)

  • Coordinate Administrative Assistants for EII
  • Complaint handling and investigation
  • Data storage initiatives
  • Business Continuity ManagementThe successful candidate may also assist with additional COO responsibilities including establishing a communication plan for senior communications to all EII EMEA employees; and organizing the ‘All Team Day’ event for the entire EII EMEA function. There will also be an opportunity to work jointly with the rest of the COO function on Risk and Governance frameworks that are being designed and implemented across the business.

Essential skills / experience:

  • Business management, COO, Finance, HR background / experience preferable
  • Self-starter with high energy, motivation a commitment to excellence and a broad interest in business management principles
  • Track record of managing multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to synthesize information and summarize issues combined with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working relatively independently across functions, geographies and seniority levels, with maturity and good judgment in dealing with internal stakeholders
  • Interpersonal skills: ability to engage diverse set of stakeholders, understand their viewpoints, build long-term relationships and create a collaborative and inspirational environment within the team
  • Previous experience designing and implementing business performance reporting tools and HR initiatives
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the asset management industry
