This position is located at the Kayenta Service Unit within the Information Resources Management (IRM) Department, Kayenta, Arizona. This position is responsible for operating the Service Unit Switchboard telephone system and provides clerical assistance to the IRM Department. The IRM Supervisor provides general supervision in making initial assignment of job duties.

The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3.   • Incumbent receives all incoming and outgoing local and long distance calls
  • Assists Service Unit staff in placing long distance or local calls
  • Performs routine tasks required in the operation of the switchboard console

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): GS-03: Candidate must have completed 6 months of General Experience to qualify for the GS-03 grade level OR 1 year above high school.

*General Experience: *Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

Education:Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at grade GS-3 through GS-5 for all positions except Reporting Stenographer, GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

  • Security Clearance: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation.
