HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Discharge/Bed/House Supervisor (RN), PRN in Jacksonville, Florida

The House Supervisor provides an extension of oversight of hospital policies, directives, staffing plans, patient safety and other clinical and non-clinical issues through ongoing collaboration with nursing directors and other hospital leadership. The House Supervisors participate in the decision making process as well as escalation of chain of command issues. In the absence of the Nursing Directors the house supervisor is a resource to hospital staff, intervenes in necessary staff corrective action on weekends and nights, acts as a patient advocate, and responds to various hospital codes. The House Supervisor communicates issues, incidents and concerns and provides the follow-up necessary.

Facilitates staffing with Nursing Directors and agency contracts. Demonstrates commitment to customer satisfaction by responding to requests/complaints in a timely manner. Investigates patient, visitor, staff and physician complaints and takes appropriate action to resolve issues, providing information to Nursing Directors for follow-up. In absence of Nursing Directors, facilitates requests for replacements for absent time with assistance of the appropriate Charge Nurse. Anticipates staffing needs, utilizing predictive classifications in collaboration with the unit's resources nurses. Collaborates with Nursing Directors and Charge Nurses in evaluation, development and counseling employees on assigned shift requests. Provides clinical support to Registered Nurses and patient care technicians. Utilizes communication tools to assure staff members receive information. Perform well under stressful conditions. Through appropriate channels, identifies the need for and participates in the development and updating of policies and procedures incorporating The Joint Commission, ANA and community practice standards. Keep nursing and hospital administration informed of any reportable incidents and potential problems on assigned shifts. Provide shift reports to oncoming House Supervisor at end of assigned shift. Assumes responsibility to all code 5 and Support Team calls. Demonstrates a calm, professional manner during a crisis or emergency situation. Promotes an environment for collaboration with Medical Staff and hospital departments to provide the needs of the patients. Is familiar with order entry and trouble shooting techniques. Makes rounds on units and selected patients. Coordinates activities relating to the death of a patient by interacting with Charge Nurse, family, medical examiner and organ procurement agencies. Facilitates appropriate patient placement in collaboration with bed management, physicians, admitting department, Emergency Department and the Charge Nurse. Acts as advocate for the patient, nursing staff and medical staff as appropriate when faced with ethical questions and assists in facilitating resolution. Attends House Supervisor and other meetings as assigned during the year.

Required Education: Required License/Certification:
