The Nursing Director (RN) provides oversight and direction to the post Surgical department, Orthopedics Department and Intermediate Surgical Center. The Nursing Director (RN) is responsible for effectively directing the delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and well being of all patients in the assigned departments on a 24-hour, 7 days/week basis. The Nursing Director has a broad vision for service lines he/she is responsible for. The Nursing Director espouses the mission, values and ethics of the corporation, hospital and nursing department and serves as a professional role model.


  • Defines an environment that will foster a culture of service.

  • Facilitates interdepartmental communication.

  • Provides direction and sets goals, with program coordinator, to achieve and maintain centers of excellence. Defines customer satisfaction strategic goals and is accountable for results and improvement.

  • Responsible for inter- and intradepartmental conflict resolution and outcomes. Quality

  • Develops service line/department QI plan and ensures quality improvement processes are in place and yielding optimal outcomes.

  • Provides direction for risk management, in collaboration with Risk Manager.

  • Develops processes to reduce risk and prevent occurrences.

  • Is responsible for JCAHO performance and regulatory compliance.

  • Improves delivery of care by assessing need for and implementing redesign.

  • Director ties budgeting functions to Strategic Planning process.

  • Provides direction and oversight for budget, and final approval at department level.

  • Is responsible to ensure compliance with budget.

  • Supports Case Management and Utilization Review initiatives.

  • Is responsible to provide direction and oversight, and to ensure compliance with productivity standards for each department.

  • Provides direction for identifying cost-saving opportunities. People

  • Director ensures that department has needed resources (i.e., staff, education) to facilitate optimal performance.

  • Serves as interdepartmental liaison and maintains open lines of communication between Administration, physicians, managers/staff, and patients/families in all departments.

  • Ensures high quality performance of staff.

  • Is responsible for developing recruitment and retention plan for department.

  • Is accountable for fair, consistent application and adherence to policies and procedures. Growth

  • Director ensures successful implementation of strategic initiatives.

  • Creates service line vision to identify new opportunities for expansion of existing services and development of new services in concert with strategic initiatives.

  • Collaborates with Community Relations to market service lines and accomplish outreach initiatives.

  • Bachelors of Nursing “BSN” degree from an accredited school of nursing.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Current Idaho Registered Nurse license, AHA CPR for Healthcare Providers certification and all hospital mandatory requirements.

  • Demonstrated successful experience in management with financial responsibilities, minimum requirement of 2 years of management experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years nursing experience in an Orthopedic or similar unit

  • Experience managing interactions with physicians, nursing staff, staff in other departments, patients, families and the public effectively.

  • Must have the sensitivity, maturity and ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

  • Strong leadership abilities including professionalism, common sense, critical thinking skills, flexibility, honesty, and a service oriented attitude.
