Amec Foster Wheeler is currently seeking a Lead I&C Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Responsibilities:

  • Assures discipline work completion within budget and on schedule

  • Prepares Project Change Notices for submittal to the Project Engineering Manager for changes in the scope of work, delays or other reasons and assist in cost estimate for the change

  • Leadership and Supervision:

  • Provides leadership on the project, mentoring and training, guidance and technical expertise to the personnel assigned to the project team

  • Reviews man-hour budget, schedule and project scope for the discipline portion of the work; Advises Department Manager and the Project Engineering Manager if the man-hour budget for the portion of the work is not in line with project scope

  • Ensures the Engineers, Designers and Technicians under supervision are properly advised of the overall scope of work and more specifically the SHE requirements, risk reviews, allocated tasks, budgeted hours and timeframe

  • Supplies to the Project Engineering Manager and Project Planner data for the preparation of a Project Schedule including Engineering Work Breakdown Schedule (WBS); Particular consideration should be given to time required for preparing purchasing documents, bid evaluations, vendor drawing reviews, time required for deliverables checking and for customer review and approval

  • Coordinates with the Project planner in the ongoing monitoring of the work

  • Where appropriate, prepares notes promptly of technical meetings held with related Project personnel, customer representatives and other outside parties; These notes will confirm the understanding of matters that were discussed and how they affect the work; A copy of the notes will be sent to the Project Engineering Manager

  • Brings to the attention of the Project Engineering Manager scope and design requirements or conditions that could adversely affect the design or performance on the Project

  • Supervises, coordinates and directs the work of engineers, designers and technicians in the preparation of Technical Specifications, purchase requisitions, designs, drawings and documents and responsible for the progress and quality of engineering and design produced by them

  • Coordinates with other Discipline Leads and Project Engineering Manager or Project Engineers to ensure a complete functional project

  • Ensures the drawing list and work status is prepared according to Procedure ENG-PRO-000116 Preparation of Electronic Drawings, and present them to the Project Engineering Manager for review

  • Quality Assurance:

  • Selects and documents the discipline codes, standards, procedures, instructions, forms, tools, standard methods and specifications to be used in the execution of the technical activities within disciplines

  • Arranges for reviews according to Procedure ENG-PRO-000119 Technical Reviews of designs and drawings for presentation, constructability and functional arrangement

  • Ensures complete checking of drawings and other documents originated by the discipline team; supervises the engineers, designers and CAD persons assigned to the project, and arranges for reviews of design calculations for accuracy, neatness, and compliance with design criteria

  • Approves the drawings and construction specifications, prepared by the discipline team by signing the document after satisfying that the work has been adequately designed, checked and is correct

  • Ensures that all required discipline signatures have been affixed prior to approval; All drawings and documents shall be submitted by the Discipline Lead to the Discipline Manager and Project Engineering Manager for approval before releasing drawings for issue in accordance with the ENG-PRO-000125 Deliverable Checking and Approval Matrix

  • Ensures that design calculations and all engineering related correspondence are collected, indexed and properly filed according to Procedure ENG-PRO-000115 Design Calculations

  • Ensures that Amec Foster Wheeler Quality Management System Procedures, Work Instructions and Design Standards are followed by technical staff under his direction

  • Reviews drawings of other Project disciplines at appropriate times to ensure that the drawings are in compliance with the requirements of the project; Conversely, ensures that discipline drawings are submitted for review to other disciplines in time for them to react and feed-back comments before scheduled release dates

  • Sees that routed material and vendor drawings are reviewed and forwarded within the allocated time periods

  • Compiles list of Lessons Learned during project execution and assures that everyone on the project is aware of them and are properly logged

  • Other:

  • Identifies the competencies required to fulfill the technical requirements and requisitions sufficient competent personnel to meet client and project requirements

  • Assists the Department Manager in evaluating the performance of all personnel under his/her supervision

  • Evaluates and assures the competency of personnel assigned to tasks and roles within the discipline during the execution of the project

  • Assists the Project Engineering Manager in preparing Project Instructions, schedules, technical briefs and components of the Project Management Plan

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • May organize and lead teams using multi-disciplinary techniques

  • BS in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering required

  • PE (Professional Engineer) license is preferred

  • 10 – 15 years related work experience preferred (years of experience are less important than type, depth and breadth of experiences; demonstrated abilities and contribution to successful engineering project outcomes are given significant weight)

  • Lead experience in Gas Gathering projects will be an advantage

  • Recognized as a technical expert in the instrument engineering discipline and has strong working knowledge of other disciplines needs and responsibilities

  • Knowledge of advanced instrumentation & controls systems principles and techniques of engineering and knowledge of discipline related computer programs and software and alternative design techniques

  • Good working knowledge of basic I&C systems principles, theories, and concepts

  • Solid understanding of internal economic factors affecting decisions (costs, margins, profit impact of decisions)

  • Ability to assist in developing engineering work processes and procedures

  • Ability to perform a variety of I&C engineering problems which could be complex and difficult

  • Consistently demonstrates creativity and innovation in finding solutions and alternatives

  • Ability to execute and oversee assigned project scope, budget and schedule

  • Advanced computer skills with MS Office programs and familiarity with company / discipline software, such as SPI/AVEVA

  • Demonstrates proficiency in mentoring and project planning, change management, progress management, interface management and first level of technical assurance

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for inter-departmental and external company interaction

  • Effective internal and customer presentation skills and technical publication skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily

  • Ability to maintain regular attendance as per work schedule agreed with manager (may require working an adjusted work schedule based on project assigned and work overtime if warranted)

  • Ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations, the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and other Company policies and procedures

Work Environment

  • Typically spends 100% of time in an office environment

  • Travel to work sites is not common but could be required in specific circumstances; Locations are dependent on project locations; May be either domestic or international

  • Any field assignments are typically to construction sites and share the environment with the construction crews; This may include outdoor/extreme weather conditions, noise, fumes and other environmental exposures

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, or crouch
