Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Houston invites applications for one faculty position at the tenure-track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the field of structural engineering and structural mechanics. Candidates with research interests in computation, modeling, and/or experimentation, as well as with multi-disciplinary research directions are encouraged to apply. Candidates are expected to demonstrate nationally and internationally recognized scholarly activities with a strong potential of having externally funded research. The candidates must also demonstrate a commitment towards teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or in a closely related field. Successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain an internationally recognized, cross-disciplinary research program, and to be able to complement and collaborate with the current faculty in the Department, College, and University.

The University of Houston is located in a park-like campus a few minutes from downtown Houston with over 30,000 undergraduate students and nearly 8,000 graduate students. UH is a recipient of the National Science Foundation ADVANCE Institutional Transformation Award to increase the participation of women in academic science and engineering careers. The CEE department currently has 22 tenured or tenure-track faculty members. Current enrollment is over 230 undergraduate students, and over 200 graduate students. Houston is considered the energy capital of the world, is home to the Texas Medical Center (one of the largest medical centers in the world) and the NASA Johnson Space center.
