SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
1 Maintains accurate and legible documentation to ensure accountability for assessments and patient plan of care.
*2 Performs clinical management of patient care according to PACU standards and policy/procedure for all surgical procedures on all levels of care.
*3 Utilizes equipment/performs special procedures relevant to PACU.
*4 Demonstrates knowledge and competency in hemodynamic management of patient care.
*5 Administers medications following the five Rights of Medication Administration.
*6 Demonstrates competency in providing discharge planning and patient education involving patient/significant other/family.
*7 Acquires/maintains current knowledge related PACU nursing.
*8 Demonstrates knowledge and competency in airway management of patient care.
*9 Assumes call/boarding duty as directed by Surgical Services.
10 Promotes cost containment while delivering quality patient care within surgical services department.
11 Exhibits nursing characteristics of the Synergy Model as outlined in the Nursing Strategic Plan: Clinical Judgment/Advocacy/moral agency, Caring Practices, Collaboration, Systems thinking, Response to diversity, Clinical inquiry/innovator/evaluator, Facilitator of learning of patient/family educator
EXPERIENCE Required - Two years Medical /Surgical Nursing or one year Medical/Surgical Nursing and one year Critical Care Nursing, may include ED. Preferred - One to two years PACU experience.
EDUCATION Required - Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Preferred – BSN
LICENSURE Required - Current licensure as an RN in the state of Virginia. Required - Current certification as an American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider, PALS, and ACLS.
