Performs general patient care before, during and after special procedures, e.g., biopsies, thoracentesis, etc. Assesses and monitors patient condition and initiates and documents appropriate nursing interventions. Administers medications as directed and monitors patient's vital signs during procedures. Intervenes in emergency situations. Uses special equipment such as monitors, oxygen, suction, defibrillator, pulse oximeter as needed.6.2 Serves as a patient/family advocate. Explains and/or reinforces physician explanation of procedure to patient and works to allay patent fears and anxiety. Ensures appropriate consent forms are completed. Reviews medical record and obtains patient medical history to include description of patient's immediate discomfort and medical complaints/symptoms.6.3 Provides nursing care to patients in department requiring special care, e.g., care of IVs and central lines, tracheotomies, cardiac monitors, dressing changes. Inserts urinary catheterization on adult and pediatric patients. Administers conscious sedation to adults and pediatric patients according to hospital policy and procedure. Accompanies patients to and from critical care units.6.4 Inserts PICC lines and provides assistance to the IV team when necessary if applicable to department.6.5 Assists physicians in administering medications and monitors patient's condition by reporting vital signs and observing telemetry equipment during procedures if applicable to department.6.6 Maintains all procedural data, recording information, sequence employed, personnel present, complications, reactions, medications administered and corrective techniques used before, during and following procedure. Documents patient status and care given. Coordinates activities between patient care units and physician. Utilizes verbal and written communications with physicians, radiologists, technologists and nursing staff regarding patient status, treatment and outcome.6.7 Participates in in-services education relevant to radiologic nursing. Participates in patient education pertaining specifically to radiology. Assist with training and orientation of radiology personnel as appropriate. Acts as liaison between the Radiology Department and Nursing Service. 6.8 Observes and demonstrates barrier precautions/infection control policies.6.9 Ensures that all associates in the department follow safety rule as set forth by the Indiana State Department of Health and Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Practices radiation safety procedures to limit exposure and dose (ALARA) to patient, self and other associates. This includes the use of all radiation protection devices, techniques and shielding.6.10 Ensures the delivery of service reflects efficient and effective use of supplies and appropriate utilization of resources. Maintains a clean, neat and safe environment for patients and staff according to hospital and department polices. Ensures supplies are stored in an organized and efficient manner. Demonstrates correct and safe technique on the use of equipment. Follows appropriate procedure for obtaining, returning, cleaning or disposing of equipment and supplies. Notifies appropriate personnel of repair needs and potential hazards.6.11 Attends all mandatory meetings, in-services, and health screening to maintain compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.6.12 Correlates and prioritizes workload and is flexible as required for quality patient services. Performs other related duties to maximize department efficiency, utilize skills, provide cross training, and promote teamwork and excellent service.6.13 Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and quality assessment monitoring.6.14 Provides patient/SO education and explanations of procedures being performed. Explains waiting times in excess of established protocols.6.15 Monitors patient safety while in the Department. Knows and takes appropriate action in a medical emergency.6.16 Observes and confidentiality of hospital and patient information. Treats all patients with respect and compassion in order to provide high quality care and customer satisfaction.6.17 Reviews annually and adheres to all state, federal and local laws and standards as they relate to ethical and legal compliance plans and polices.6.18 Supports the Mission of Community Healthcare System: Provides the highest quality care in the most cost efficient manner.
