Volvo Group Director, Vocational Sales in Greensboro, North Carolina


The Director of Vocational Sales will be responsible for increased company revenues, profitability, optimization costs, and improved customer satisfaction through the effective management of vocational, sales team and product initiatives. This position will devise and implement sales strategies by promoting offerings to customers through market-specific specification packages, lead the development of new product offerings through GTT and GTO that address customer needs in the heavy truck vocational segment. Director of Vocational Sales will report to SVP US/Canada Dealer Sales and will be domiciled at Volvo corporate headquarters in Greensboro, NC. Director of Vocational Sales will also have direct sales responsibility for US-Southeast Region and defined customer/bodybuilder accounts as determined by Southeast RVP and SVP US/Canada Dealer Sales.


  • Enhance company revenues, profitability, optimize costs and improve customer satisfaction through the effective management of vocational segment initiatives

  • Manage 2 Area Vocational Sales Managers (direct report responsibility) driving sales of all Volvo heavy truck, vocational products through its dealers

  • Devise and implement sales strategies by promoting offerings to customers through market-specific specification packages

  • Lead the development of new product offerings that address customer needs in the heavy truck vocational vehicles

  • Promote the Company’s position vocational industry through active participation and public speaking at forums, trade shows and organizations and by maintaining frequent contact with major customer fleets and bodybuilders

  • Execute initiatives that drive sales of Volvo vocational hard and soft products through dealers

  • Develop relationships with bodybuilder vendors to foster the marketing of packaged equipment (truck chassis and body). Create market-ready programs for dealers to stock and sell additional vocational product

  • Develop both internal and dealer sales and marketing plans targeting specific customer accounts for segments such as private and municipal construction, refuse, mixer, and dump applications

  • Provide coaching, mentoring and support to both internal and external sales force, specifically as it relates to governmental bid processes, municipal leases, and bodybuilders

  • Cultivate sales in the heavy duty alternative fuel business in North America by actively developing and maintaining critical customer relationships

  • Develop and communicate internal and dealer sales objectives and develop KPIs to measure and meet company channel profit and sales targets

Critical Competencies

  • Must have management experience with a remote sales team (direct report responsibility)

  • Experience with vocational or heavy equipment product either in a technical or sales position

  • Customer-facing experience in selling highly technical aspects of capital equipment, and heavy trucks

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver sales activities to address customer needs

  • Customer focused with ability to leverage multiple resources to achieve a satisfactory solution

  • Strong oral, written, verbal, communication and presentation skills

  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and Apple applications

  • Strong leadership and team building skills

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Marketing, or equivalent industry job related experience

  • 10 years’ experience in heavy truck or equipment sales and/or marketing role

  • 3 years’ experience specifically with vocational or specialty vehicle equipment

  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
