JOB FUNCTION

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the UK Central Finance function to provide support and assistance to management. This role will give the successful candidate exposure to many financial disciplines including balance sheets, cash flows, consolidations, tax and capital solvency requirements.

The role s main responsibility will be the creation, analysis and reporting of financial information on both a US GAAP and local regulatory basis used to support both management decision making and/or communication to internal/external constituents, along with the maintenance of accounting and internal control related processes in line with Aetna standards. The International finance team has an obligation to protect the company s financial records.

In addition to month end responsibilities, the candidate will be involved in assisting the management with various projects as well as any other ad hoc work as and when required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fulfil the internal and external reporting obligations and internal control objectives of the Aetna International entities.

  • Responsible for the preparation, reconciliation and maintenance of schedules and analyses supporting internal management and statutory financial information and disclosures.

  • Provide information and assistance to facilitate the completion of annual financial audits, quarterly reviews, and regulatory financial examinations.

  • Prepare account analyses and roll-forwards to help identify unusual trends, accounting and internal control issues, and non-standard entries. Work with appropriate responsible parties to communicate issues and resolution plans.

  • Responsible for various elements of the entity s monthly financial close process including: recording of journal entries, maintenance and reconciliation of financial systems, and accurate communication to management.

  • Assists in the production of information designed to meet the entity s capital requirements.

  • Assist in the implementation of company initiatives including improved management information requirement, financial information system, financial planning and analysis tools, and internal control enhancements.

  • Participate in and influence the design, operation, and enhancement and monitoring of the Company s internal control structure including: reconciliation controls on bank accounts, general ledger accounts, subsidiary systems and financial reporting system.

  • Ensure compliance with Aetna and AGB internal control and financial reporting guidance.

  • Prepare and record routine journal entries. Posts ledger entries on a timely and accurate basis in line with Aetna policies and procedures.

  • Maintaining the consolidation packages including adjustments for US GAAP.

  • Liaising with Auditors and other external parties, from a finance perspective, as and when required.

  • Providing Assistance for additional reports prepared at quarter end and year end, including preparation of financial statements for the UK entities under IFRS, local regulatory reports for overseas branches, quarterly tax reports, 10k reporting and IGD returns.

  • Any other ad hoc project work as and when required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Strong education record (GCSE, A-Level, Degree or equivalents).

  • Part qualified, currently studying towards a professional accountancy qualification (ACCA or equivalent).

  • Computer literate to include aspects of Microsoft Office especially Microsoft Excel.

  • Knowledge of accounting systems/software (e.g. Oracle).

  • Previous experience of working in a finance department and/or insurance preferred.
