Calista Corporation Biologist in Gila Bend, Arizona

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Biologist will monitor the base population of Sonoran Pronghorn and other wildlife on a daily basis. This position will monitor wildlife activity to ensure the safety of personnel and wildlife.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) surveys and analysis

  • Work under the direction of the Lead Biologist

  • Daily work schedule will vary and be determined by sunrise times

  • Conduct wildlife hazard inspection of property

  • Coordinate mitigation of wildlife activity in the primary airfield activity zones and surrounding areas

  • Perform safe non-invasive wildlife removal activity to remove wildlife from aircraft movement areas

  • Work with other base agencies to manage wildlife protection and mitigation programs

  • Maintain required records and supporting documentation pertaining to wildlife management activities

  • Follow direction of Lead Biologist for project development instructions and participation

  • Maintain wildlife management database

  • This position requires carrying a supply pack weighing up to 35 pounds. Hiking of rugged / mountainous terrain, exposure to extreme environmental conditions, and exposure to poisonous organisms

  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. This position has the authority to carry out assigned duties and tasks.

Job Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Intermediate computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.

  • Ability to enter data accurately into databases.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

  • Strong observation and research abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.

  • Must be trustworthy – will routinely work independently and must be able to stay on task and complete assignments with little to no supervision.

  • Effective oral and technical written communication skills to effectively and clearly communicate complex information to others as well as to present information in front of a group.

  • Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, etc.

  • Ability to follow a process.

  • Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to evaluate data and consider decision impact across multiple areas.

  • Strong decision analysis and problem solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions. Must be able to communicate issues to management and regulatory agencies.

  • Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to Chiulista’s goals.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations, detect unobvious facts and issues, and exercise resourcefulness in resolving problems.

  • Ability to multi-task.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Zoology, Ecology or related field

  • A minimum of one year field research experience

  • Must have valid Arizona driver license or the ability to obtain one

  • Must be able to obtain a government security clearance

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

ENVIRONMENTAL CONTINUOUSLY: Working alone and with others. FREQUENTLY: Exposed to outside hot, cold and humid temperatures, biological, sharp objects/tools, other * this position will be exposed to extreme environmental elements frequently; poisonous plants and organisms, high places/high heights, constricted spaces (underground), dirty (soil), gases, oil, mud, moving mechanical parts.
