SUNY Geneseo Assistant Professor of Mathematics (Computational Mathematics) in Geneseo, New York
The Department of Mathematics at SUNY Geneseo is seeking applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor with a focus in computational mathematics to begin August 2017. The Department of Mathematics (20 full-time members) encompasses both pure and applied mathematics, as well as very strong secondary mathematics teacher preparation and growing actuarial programs. The Department offers the following: B.S. in Applied Mathematics, B.S. in Mathematics, B.A. in Mathematics, B.A. in Mathematics with Adolescence (Secondary Education) Certification, Minor in Mathematics, Minor in Biomathematics, and Concentration in Mathematics for Elementary Education. Mathematics is the 6th largest major on campus with over 300 majors, with over 20% also in the secondary education certification program.
Teach a variety of upper level undergraduate courses that serve our mathematics programs.
Teach introductory level courses for majors and non-majors.
Provide academic advisement to students.
Contribute to department functioning through committee service.
Contribute service to the discipline.
Contribute to campus community.
Maintain an ongoing and active research agenda.
Our priority is teaching excellence, and we seek someone with recent and documented experience as a teacher of undergraduate, an enthusiastic commitment to undergraduate instruction at all levels, and the ability to teach a variety of courses that serve our mathematics majors.
Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics or Computational Mathematics conferred by August 2017.
A specialty or focus in computational mathematics.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching as a mathematics instructor, and an enthusiastic commitment to undergraduate instruction.
Evidence of an ongoing and active research agenda.
The ability and willingness to conduct undergraduate-focused research, mentoring, or supervision in mathematics.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching with mathematical programming software.
Ability to teach introductory programming in mathematical problem-solving and programming,
Familiarity with the development and implementation of numerical methods, algorithms, and symbolic methods in mathematics.
Background in Computer Science.
