Community Health Systems Medical Technologist: MT/MLT in Fort Wayne, Indiana


Performs a variety of analytical determinations on body fluids and tissue samples using approved laboratory protocols that require independent judgment and accountability. Monitors the work of other hospital team member performing point-of-care testing and laboratory team members who also perform low, moderate, and high complexity testing. Reviews quality control data for acceptability of test results, trends, and biases. High potential for biohazard and chemical exposure. Maintains confidential patient information, complies with Corporate Compliance, HIPAA, and Medical Necessity Policies, in addition to all laws, rules, regulations, and standards of conduct relating to the position.


Licensure: Registration by the Board of Registry on the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, certification by the National Certification Agency, or equivalent credentials required.


Education: This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or related field from an accredited college or university


Knowledge and Skills:

Demonstrates working knowledge of Hospital service theme.

Requires in depth knowledge of laboratory testing, reporting procedures, specimen collection and processing, in addition to the operation and maintenance of related equipment in order to perform a variety of analytical tests on patient specimens and provide clinical guidance to technician staff.

Requires general working knowledge of the normal growth, development, related behaviors, needs, comfort, and range of treatment appropriate to the age (including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric) and diagnosis of patient served to support the provision of an individualized multidisciplinary plan of care.

Requires strong analytical and organizational skills in order to conduct a variety of indepth laboratory tests on patient specimens and maintain related documentation. Requires strong problem solving skills and ability to work independantly.

Requires basic understanding of the role of the laboratory in providing excellent patient care. Understands the responsibility of the laboratory to provide accurate and timely information to assist in positive patient outcomes. Understands the importance of maintaining working relationships with other team members in the laboratory and in the hospital.

Demonstrates well developed interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external customers, as needed.
