The Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) is currently accepting applications under examining authority of 10 U.S.C., Section 2164, for the above position(s) in DDESS Schools.
Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is a DoD Field Activity responsible for the oversight of two school systems, the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary & Secondary Schools (DDESS). DoDEA employs more than 15,000 individuals responsible for educating approximately 90,000 students in 12 foreign countries, seven states, Guam, and Puerto Rico. The mission of DoDEA is to provide a quality education from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve for the eligible minor family members of DoD military and civilian personnel on official assignments.

Plans, develops, and organizes long and short range goals, objectives, lesson plans, and daily class work in a manner that will ensure adequate coverage within the time frame allotted for the discipline content and skills required to meet approved course outlines and curriculum objectives of the school system. Conducts classroom instruction using modern professional teaching principles, practices and techniques appropriate to the subject matter or grade level(s) of assignment. Maintains a keen awareness of student progress. Determines the need for, develops, and follows through on individual learning programs for students who are having common learning difficulties. Exercises continuous surveillance over the educational welfare of assigned students by working with school counselors, specialists, administrators, and/or school psychologists to resolving learning and behavioral problems of students. Maintains individual and class records. Counsels students on their progress in meeting the goals and objectives established for the class and/or the individual student. Meets and deals independently with other teachers, parents, and guardians concerning student progress and/or problems. Participates in committee activities to review, evaluate, and develop educational materials which will improve the education program or the climate of' the school. May be required to supervise students during outside activities, in the lunchroom, during bus arrivals and departures.

In order to be considered for employment for positions in DoDEA, applicants must meet the general criteria below.
1.* United States (U.S.) citizenship.*
Minimum Academic Preparation and Requirements. A baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association is required. Academic preparation of at least 40 semester hours (SH) in general education course work distributed over such fields as English, history, social studies, mathematics, fine arts, languages, science, philosophy, and psychology is required. In addition, a minimum of 18 SH of professional teacher education course work in such areas as learning process, measurement, philosophy, psychology, social foundations, methods of teaching and curriculum applicable to the type and level of the position for which applying is required. For 0090 Prek: A major in early childhood education (ECE) or a degree in elementary education with 24 semester hours (SH) in ECE is required. The 24 SH must be in course description or title containing early childhood, kindergarten or pre kindergarten training. Course work in methods of teaching emerging literacy and methods of teaching mathematics for early childhood, kindergarten or pre kindergarten is required. Two years of full-time experience in teaching pre kindergarten or kindergarten may be substituted for 3 SH of the required ECE course work.
Student Teaching or an Internship. Student teaching or an internship as part of an approved teacher education program in an accredited U.S. institution is required. In the absence of an approved student teaching or internship program, applicants may be given credit for one year of successful fulltime employment as an educator.
State or Territory Certification/License. In lieu of meeting the DoDEA minimum qualifications, applicants may be considered and hired based on a valid state or territory certificate or license in the subject area for which applying. (SPECIAL NOTE: Effective January 2009, DoDEA adopted a new business process for rating teacher applications. Minimum Academic Preparation and Requirements and Information, to include State endorsements (as DoDEA determines comparable to DoDEA's teacher categories), AND official transcripts reflecting 50% of the course work in the content area, must be considered with each position, where applicable.)
DoDEA Licensure. There are three types of licenses issued to DoDEA employees:
Emergency License. This license is issued only when a fully qualified, licensed applicant is not available for the position, and the position is essential to the instructional program. It is valid for one school year but is seldom used.
Provisional License. Newly hired educators (other than those who are issued an emergency license) will be issued a Provisional License. The Provisional License is valid for two school years. Requirements for the Professional License must be completed no later than the second school year of employment.
Professional License. Educators who have completed two years of successful teaching experience with DoDDS and meet all qualification requirements as stated in this brochure will be issued a DoDEA Professional License.
- Testing Requirements. Applicants must submit proof of achieving DoDEA's minimum scores for the required PRAXIS
tests.Please note that DoDEA has adopted NEW test names and qualifying scores for PRAXIS I.There is no change in
requirements for PRAXIS II and both PRAXIS I and PRAXIS II must be met.DoDEA Competency Tests and Qualifying

This position is part-time (20 hours per week/40 biweekly hours per pay period). The salary for a full-time seasonal (seasonal
meaning school year) Teacher ranges between $46,981 - $113,977 depending on education level and years of experience.
Since this position is part-time seasonal, the yearly salary will be approximately half the full-time seasonal amount per year.
