L-3 Communications Manufacturing Engineering Manager in Folsom, California
Narda Microwave-West, an L3 Communications company located in Folsom, CA, is a manufacturer of state-of-the-art Passive and Active microwave components and sub-systems used in the space markets. As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will supervise a small team of skilled manufacturing engineers and create, develop, implement, optimize and maintain production schedules, shop orders, tooling/fixturing, processes, and labor standards for high reliability low volume and high mix of RF active and passive communication products. Duties include:
Conduct economic analysis on new methods and equipment.
Define, propose, and implement capital equipment for process improvement.
Provide facility layout and design recommendations for methods and process flow improvement.
Participate in failure analysis teams and contribute to resulting solutions.
Participate in multi-disciplinary teams in all facets of work.
Make product dependent process and flow presentations to customers.
Evaluate, approve and initiate engineering drawings and/or change requests.
Manage a small team of manufacturing engineers and technicians.
Provide guidance and mentoring, plan/coordinate staffing needs and resources as well as ongoing performance management.
Maximize product quality and minimize product liability exposure by utilization of manufacturing technology and quality control.
Provide key inputs and drive DFX (Design for Manufacturability, Design for Cost, etc.) during design reviews/changes.
Manage and facilitate transition of new product from engineering to production.
Establish objectives, schedules and priorities in Manufacturing Engineering activities, and review staff based on their accomplishments toward these directions.
Establish and meet schedules for the introduction of new methods, new products or cost reductions. Review the engineering change and release activity.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Industrial Engineering preferred, or equivalent education/experience required.
Preference will be given to candidates with at least 10 years of relevant industry experience, with at least 3 years of experience managing a small- to medium-sized team.
Able to develop the professional abilities of the manufacturing engineering group.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Able to develop new production processes and methods for the purpose of increasing output or efficiency and reducing costs.
Lean Process design and Demand Flow Technology experience are desired, as well as using the 5S philosophy for improvement in the workplace.
Microwave hybrid “chip and wire” process experience is preferred.
