*Position Summary:* The/Cardiac Nurse Practitioner Supervisor/supports the mission, vision, and values, as well as goals and objectives of Swedish Medical Center and the HealthONE organization. Provides oversight of the Cardiac Nurse Practitioner team and collaborates with the Service Line Director to ensure the integration of the cardiovascular service line within overall hospital functions.
Collaborates in decision-making structures and processes at the unit, service line, and organizational levels. Knowledgeable of healthcare trends and participates in strategic planning for department and service line with supervisor and hospital leadership.
The Cardiac Nurse Practitioner Supervisor works with his/her staff to review cardiac patient census daily and leads efforts to optimize care and services provided. The Cardiac Nurse Practitioner Supervisor directs the Cardiac NP team to organize, coordinate, and facilitate the care of patients followed by CV Services. She/he is responsible for the hiring, mentoring, evaluating and disciplining process of his/her team in collaboration with the Director of Cardiovascular Services.
Accountable for the implementation of an effective and continuous program to measure, assess, and improve performance. Assures a high level of customer satisfaction. Manages productivity to achieve budgetary targets. Assumes primary responsibility for the staffing and coverage of Cardiac Nurse Practitioner team and performs other duties as assigned.
The Cardiac Nurse Practitioner Supervisor (APN) delivers nursing and collaborative medical aspects of care to specific populations within the scope and standards of practice set by the American Nurses’ Association. He/She collaborates with the physicians and interdisciplinary team members to review the plan of care and intervene when necessary to ensure adequate delivery of quality health care in a cost effective way. Utilizing extensive advanced knowledge of pathophysiology and pharmacology, the APN exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of certain delegated medical processes and procedures. The ultimate goal of the APN is to improve continuity of patient care and facilitate patient flow throughout the health care continuum.* *The Advanced Practice Nurse provides leadership through planning, organizing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the care provided for patients. The Advanced Practice Nurse actively participates in program development for the cardiac service line in collaboration with and under the direction of the Cardiac Service Line Director and the Cardiac Services Medical Director.
Position Requirements: Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current Colorado Registered Nurse License, Current Colorado Advanced Practice Registry. Specialty certification as an Acute Care adult or Family Nurse Practitioner. Current BLS and ACLS Certification. Prescriptive authority granted by the Colorado Board of Nursing and DEA Certificate is required for prescribing pharmacologic agents and/or writing medication orders.
Education: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing. Completion of an accredited program for advanced practice nurses MSN required.
Experience: Sufficient previous experience as a nurse or advanced practice nurse. Minimum field-of-experience, completion of an accredited program including preceptorship. Possesses advanced knowledge of theory and practice in professional nursing as evidenced by credentials, peer review and performance evaluation.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Performs independent nursing assessments, but works interdependently with the physician. Demonstrates an advanced level of nursing expertise by incorporating advanced nursing practice. The APN is accountable for his/her action. Provides safe and appropriate patient care within the Standards of Nursing Practice at SMC. Displays appropriate judgment and problem solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers. Demonstrates an ability to assume a leadership role with the health care team in planning and in the delivery of patient care.
Degree of Supervision Required: Under supervision of Director/Designee.
Orientation Period: Minimum of 6 weeks contingent upon experience. Extensive orientation may be required and will be determined by Department Director. Until which time the practitioner has been credentialed as an Advanced Practice Practitioner, the scope of practice shall not include independent consultation, diagnosis, history & physical, prescriptive authority, patient care orders, or other elements of Advanced Practice nursing.
