HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Charge Registered Nurse (RN) Surgery / Full Time Day Shift in El Paso, Texas
_POSITION SUMMARY: _ The RN Charge/Supervisor is responsible for supervision and/or coordination of all staff assigned to his/her team and the coordination/communication of information relevant to the intra-operative patient care process. The RN Charge/Supervisor also provides feedback regarding patient care, budgetary, and strategic planning opportunities for improvement. Duties include to collaborate and coordinate the efforts of the surgical staff to meet the needs of the surgical schedule, surgeons, anesthesia care providers, patients and staff needs; to supervise the daily activities of the surgical department to assure quality patient care; to anticipate and estimate future needs of the unit, and make arrangements for the needs to be met; i.e., equipment, supplies; to provide professional nursing care to surgical patients utilizing the nursing process; to collaborate and coordinate with other members of the surgical team including physicians to deliver quality health care. Responsible for assuring that the surgical case is properly prepared for, and to assure quality care for the patient. Responsible for facilitating, coordinating and directing the operation of the OR while preparing for, during, and after the case. Develops and maintains positive work relations with all internal and external customers.
*POPULATION SERVED*: Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: Pre and intraoperative interventions, including but not limited to Cardiovascular/Thoracic, Neuro, GI, GU, GYN, Orthopedics, Skeletal/muscular conditions and diseases etc.
_ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:_ RN Charge/Supervisor
Demonstrates knowledge and application of the Intra-operative nursing process for patients of all ages, and all surgical services as listed above.
Monitors and recognizes changes in the patient’s behavioral and physiological status, during pre-intra and post operative phases of the procedure; takes appropriate action based on assessment.
Utilizes professional skills and judgment in delivering and/or delegating care for all surgical patients on his/her shift.
Provides leadership and direction to all disciplines assigned to the surgical health care team, including all ancillary staff, assigned to assist the surgical team.
Maintains responsibility for the daily operation of the surgery department, and provides timely feedback to the Director.
Demonstrates ability to manage surgery staff, physicians and equipment in an effective manner.
Maintains responsibility for assessing and making necessary changes to the staff assignments and surgical schedule to facilitate the most effective, timely, staff utilization.
Coordinates the preparation for the surgical cases: assuring that all supplies, instruments, and equipment are available to safely perform the surgical procedure.
Maintains aseptic technique during surgical procedures by continuously monitoring surgical technique in the sterile field.
Assists and evaluates the patient’s positioning during procedures, assuring the proper padding and positioning devices are used correctly.
Demonstrates ability to use all the equipment in the unit in a proficient and safe manner.
Maintains responsibility for following Surgical Services Policies and procedures and in accordance with established policies and procedures ofLas PalmasMedicalCenter.
Maintains responsibility for meeting and maintaining AORN and JCAHO standards.
Demonstrates effective communication skills when interacting with physicians, patients, staff and ancillary personnel.
Maintains responsibility for assisting OR Director with surgical staff process activities, including orientation, and professional development.
Responsible for conducting morning report at least once a week to update surgery staff of relevant happenings.
- Assists with other duties as assigned within scope and practice of licensure.
*REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS* BCLS Texas or compact state Nursing License

*PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES* 1. Preferred two years of operating room experience or Two years of critical care experience. 2. CNOR, ACLS/NALS/PALS/TNCC desired
