Pharmaceutical Commercialization Technology (PCT) is responsible for commercialization of new pharmaceutical processes for oral solid dosage forms from Phase II through launch and transfer to supply. Activities include process equipment commissioning and qualification, process development, scale-up, and optimization; clinical supply manufacture; preparing documentation to support filings and pre-approval inspections; validation; and supporting commercial investigations.
The Sr. Technologist is a key technical leadership position, and contributes a strong knowledge of pharmaceutical development under scientific and administrative direction. The person in this position applies sound scientific methods and analysis while communicating and collaborating effectively across levels, participates in complex, cross-functional divisional teams and initiatives, may lead cross-functional working groups, and provides support to subteams and working groups to achieve project deliverables. He/she provides technical support such as manufacturing process design, scale-up and validation, clinical supply manufacture, cleaning process validation, equipment commissioning and qualification, packaging validation, regulatory documentation, process qualification, and continued process verification.
This position is based in Merck Las Piedras and does not include relocation assistance
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD Degree in Pharmaceutical Science, Engineering or related science. Industrial Pharmacy is preferred.
Five (5) years or more of experience post-bachelor's or post-master's degree in Manufacturing, Process Development, process support,, or related areas. PhD’s based on research experience.
Valid Pharmacist license, preferred.
Strong Science and Engineering skills with a desire to perform hands-on work including design and execution of experiments at various scales (lab/ pilot plant etc).
Proficient in equipment/utilities qualification methodology.
Experience in the following areas; validation, equipment qualification, development of cleaning validation processes, investigations, development of regulatory pages for submission of new products, solid dosage process development and interaction with regulatory agencies.
Experience with some of the following technologies: wet and dry granulation, roller compaction, compressing, encapsulation, regular and active ingredient coating, hot melt extrusion and bilayer.
Capacity to work with minimum supervision.
Availability to all production shifts.
This position may require traveling outside of Puerto Rico.
Fully bilingual (English and Spanish).
Computer Skills (Microsoft Office & Project).
