Senior Tax Analyst – State & Local - Rotational

This senior tax analyst position is a rotational opportunity within the Tax Staff, located at the corporate headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. This senior tax analyst position will begin their GM career in the State and Local tax area.

The position requires tax and accounting expertise, decision making ability, and initiative. Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of state and local income tax returns, including quarterly estimates
  • Recommend and implement processes that improve the efficiency and accuracy of tax accounting and compliance related activities
  • Partner with business units and other departments within Corporate Finance to ensure the accuracy of state and local income tax returns and financial statement balances
  • Conduct research and provide supporting documentation for tax positions taken on returns and for proposed transactions
  • Provide support in the review of proposed and existing tax laws, regulations, and rulings
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual income tax provisions
  • Assist in preparing quarterly and annual income tax-related SEC filings
  • Operate Sarbanes Oxley 404 tax controls and support related testing
  • Create project plans, solve problems, and develop new methods of analysis
  • Develop general corporate tax technical expertise as well as specialized tax knowledge

Qualifications

Basic Required:

  • Professional Certification: Certified Public Accountant and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3-6 years corporate tax experience, including experience in state and local tax (SALT) compliance, planning and defense
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and manage work load within statutory and internal deadlines
  • Well-developed computer and system skills, including experience with finance enterprise systems and tax provision systems (e.g., SAP, OneSource)
  • Demonstrated high levels of productivity and strong performance

Basic Preferred:

  • Professional Certification: Master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting; other advanced degree or training
  • Demonstrated effective analytical and problem solving skills
  • Self-motivated, with strong interpersonal, team and partnering skills
