General Motors European Benefits Specialist - HUM0004394 in Detroit, Michigan

Provide analytical and consulting support to a group of countries in Europe as a technical and local country benefits expert, partnering with the business unit to provide seamless benefits support, identify areas to further align global benefits with the GM HR Transformation model while balancing and advocating local needs.

This includes:

  • Analyze and benchmark benefit plan competitiveness
  • Complete benefit surveys in a timely manner for consultant service providers (e.g. Mercer, Towers Watson) and networking groups (e.g. Foreign Benefits Study Group, Global Business Group on Health), where required
  • Partner within region to understand labor concerns as it relates to benefit plans
  • Correlate timing of benefit recommendations associated with upcoming collectively bargained negotiations
  • Partner with Global Business Services on vendor selection and implementation of benefit programs outside of the GM Captive Reinsurance program
  • Propose and analyze benefit changes for benefit plans
  • Draft memos for proposed benefit changes and obtain necessary Delegation of Authority approvals
  • Review and complete health and welfare plan renewals that are outside of the GM Captive Reinsurance program
  • Participate and identify opportunities with retirement plan de-risking initiatives
  • Liaison with Compensation & Benefits Leaders to understand benefit needs within the country
  • Update global benefits data warehouse with benefit plan and costing information, where applicable
  • Identify in-country compliance issues
  • Partner with Global Wellness Manager to identify and launch wellness initiatives in specific countries
  • Gain in depth understanding of the local business and external market
  • Provide input on feasibility of globaland regional programs based on knowledge of local country environment
  • Recommend areas of improvement in local unit processes and global processes
  • Identify need for global support based on knowledge of local activities and needs
  • Assist in the development of training and communication materials
  • Assist in localization process
  • Have an in depth understanding of country operations / needs and competitive environment

Project work may include:

  • Assist in standardizing benefit practices across region
  • Identify opportunities to better support labor / hourly processes

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Expertise in benefits strategic design
