Honeywell Sr. Mech/Mat Engineer in Des Plaines, Illinois
• Generate requisitions for various types of static equipment such as pressure vessels and heat exchangers. • Incorporate applicable code and customer requirements in order to produce a complete technical definition of the equipment. • Assume the primary liaison role with various outside suppliers. • Supervise and review the work of other static engineers and contract engineers. • Technically evaluate bids and participate in the supplier selection process. • Review supplier designs against licensor requirements, code requirements, and customer requirements. • Coordinate with suppliers throughout the fabrication phase of the project. • Visit shops for kickoff meetings, critical inspections, and provide feedback to improve future designs. • Ability to manage package equipment requisitions that require input from multiple engineering disciplines • Work closely with UOP Schedule A engineers and discipline engineers for static equipment issues and technology understanding. • Stay current with applicable ASME, API, and UOP standards for static equipment. • Troubleshoot design issues and issue resolution. • Identify opportunities for infrastructure improvements and implement the changes • Provide sales support to review customer specifications and provide cost estimates for static equipment
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering is required.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in Static Equipment design (vessels and/or shell in tube heat exchangers), specification and/or manufacturing is required.
Experience with specification and/or manufacture of heat exchangers per API 660 (American Petroleum Institute) and TEMA R (Thermal Exchange Manufacturers Association) standards are required.
Experience with specification and/or manufacture of vessels per American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Section VIII Division 1 and 2 or
Experience with fabrication of alloy vessel and heat exchangers is an advantage.
Familiarity with code calculations, post weld heat treatment (PWHT), welding symbology and general constructability issues is a plus.
Good working knowledge and use of Compress (ASME Vessel design software), HTRI, Adobe Acrobat Standard, Microsoft Office (Word, EXCEL, Power Point) is considered ideal.
Multi-tasking abilities to maintain contributions on schedule for several projects simultaneously is key.
Ability to communicate well with suppliers in both written and verbal communication is desired.
Ability to work well in a team environment and provide proper updating of Project managers, Project Engineers, and Procurement of status of requisitions and document reviews is necessary.
Ability to mentor and help develop younger engineers is considered ideal.
Experience utilizing HTRI is a plus.
Experience with Fired Heaters is a plus
Experience with rotating equipment is a plus
