Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Engineer for our Denver office with an expertise in Utility Communications. The successful applicant will be responsible for successful completion of assigned projects and for maintaining and improving client relationships. Completion of these functions requires technical competence in primary production roles as well as leadership competence in working with clients and mentoring and supervising team members assigned to projects. Assigned projects will include planning, analysis, and design of communication systems for electric utility, industrial, and commercial clients.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE with coursework and/or certification in data or radio communications

  • Industry experience in utility communications work

  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring others and in providing technical and commercial leadership in customer focused engineering projects

    Desired Education/Experience

  • MSEE, GPA above 3.5/4.0 is preferred

  • The following additional qualifications are preferred:

  • Interest in pursuing career in utility communications and/or SCADA field

  • University courses in utility power systems (e.g three-phase power, load flow and reactive compensation, protective relaying, symmetrical components, transmission line theory, power system transients, dynamic stability, and power system electromagnetics)

  • PE or EIT is preferred

  • The following technical areas are preferred (as many as possible):

  • Radio communications and radio propagation

  • Microwave systems

  • Serial, Ethernet, SONET, and MPLS data transmission

  • Analysis of radio and/or microwave systems using software tools like Pathloss 4, Pathloss 5, IQLink, PLANET, etc.

  • Designing, installing, and/or testing fiber-optic systems

  • Development of utility SCADA systems (RTUs, HMIs, PLCs, etc.)

  • Communication terminal design (splice boxes, connectors, antennas, cable trays, raceways, towers, grounding, communication racks, equipment connections etc.)
