Under the direction of the Associate Chief Nursing Officer of Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center, the Director of the Perioperative Services provides oversight and direction for the clinical practice of nursing and the delivery of patient care within the Perioperative Program (Pre-Op, Intra-Op, and Post-Op), and Perfusion services. Responsible for the management of human, fiscal, and other resources, development of personnel, compliance with regulatory and professional standards, strategic planning, and fostering of collaborative relationships (nursing, anesthesia, surgeons) to ensure quality practice and outcomes, coordination of effective care and efficient unit operations through obtaining consensus and promoting participative behaviors.

- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:* • Oversees all aspects of the Perioperative services within three departments (Surgery Admission, Surgery, PACU, including Perfusion. • Leads the quality and process improvement efforts. Makes continuous efforts to ensure cost-effective, efficient operations. • Effectively performs personnel tasks including hiring, counseling, promoting and disciplining staff as appropriate. • Manage the performance of all Perioperative personnel, holding staff accountable for iCARE standards of behavior, adherence to role expectations, and completing performance reviews. • Effective communication with internal and external team members • Builds effective partnerships with surgeons, anesthesia providers, office managers, and staff to maintain safe, efficient and effective work flow and processes. • Enhance the patient and family experience through a welcoming environment and implementation of Culture of Excellence tactics. • Partner with executive leadership to increase volume and specialty programs. • Analyze and evaluate OR metrics to promote patient safety, and department and resource efficiency. • Work collaboratively with facility partners (Infection Prevention, Quality, Risk Management, Instrument Processing, Supply Chain, etc.) • Management of supplies, instruments, equipment, capital, and new product requests. • Ensure compliance and ownership of regulatory standards, including The Joint Commission • Focuses on efficiency in throughput, excellent customer service, and strategies for program growth opportunities • Provides support of clinical excellence initiatives, including Magnet document development • Actively participate in nursing counsel operations • Other duties as assigned.
A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current licensure in the state of Colorado as a Registered Nurse. Current BLS certification.
B. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Masters in Nursing degree preferred.
C. Experience: Minimum of three years in a nursing management position. At least 3 years clinical experience in surgical services.
D. Special Qualifications: Comprehensive knowledge of perioperative services. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Plans, leads and directs the delivery of patient services by competent, trained staff. Works independently to effectively problem solve issues with staff and develop a workable solution. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing. Strong physician relations. Hiring, guidance, mentoring, evaluations and counseling of personnel. Tactful, assertive, strong attention to detail, and highly organized.
Degree of supervision required:Involves general guidance and direction by the executive team. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
Ages of Patients Served:This position requires knowledge of growth and developmental needs of patients and families. Personnel in this position must recognize and respond to the behaviors of patients and families in each age category. The employee must be able to demonstrate the special skills required to care for patients and their families according to standards. (The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.)
